To cook a fillet steak with mold on?!

I know it sounds ridic but AIBU to cut off the white whiskers of mold that have appeared on a horribly expensive lump of organic fillet steak?

Or will I kill us all?

Hmm, personally I wouldn't! Some things are ok to just cut the mould off but if it's meat then there will probably be all sorts of other nasties in there that aren't visible!

Not on meat.... There could be spores that are not visible to the naked eye...

Though if it's well done it shouldn't hurt you. But I don't think I could risk it. I don't even cut it off bread and eat it. Might be in my head but the bread tastes mouldy when I do that

I've never seen meat with mould on - just how old is it? And has it been in the fridge? But anyway, I think it's a no. Shame

Hell no. If you can see mould, there's way more bacteria in there that you can't see. It will taste foul, and you'd have to cook it to REALLY well done, which would ruin it.

There's no WAY it should have mould on it if it was purchased in Saturday.

It shouldn't have mound on it from Saturday,in the summer one year as a student , I bought loads of meat, put it in the fridge, then had to go home for a couple weeks for a family emergency, the fridge which was in my room broke, so when I got back it stunk the whole building out but there wasn't white mould

White mould on meat sounds very odd, in my experience of student halls and house shares was that red meat went green/brown

If it's grown mould I would also be worried what other invisible nasties are lurking

No you can't cook meat that has mould on. What's the use by date on it?

Depending on packaging if it is mould or gone off you may want to clean the fridge

I have only seen white mould on meat once. I couldn't find much on Google about white mould and my flat mates thought it'd be fine. We were so sick we had to run to different flats so we weren't all clamouring for the shared toilet. It was horrendous.

Are you absolutely sure it's mould, OP? Doesn't sound quite right to me. Can we see a pic so strangers on the internet can debate whether or not you should eat it?

This troubles me. I see Use By dates as a challenge and will eat anything that smells ok. In half a century of this cavalier attitude to 'healthy' living I have never seen mould on meat - I have seen green meat and rainbow hued meat (didn't smell good, didn't eat them) but mould is a new one on me. I would steer well clear of that meat and maybe contact the vendor.

Dear god. A new internet low for me the fridge is pristine - deep cleaned by professional cleaners at the weekend in fact.

The use by date is yesterday. Gutted as it was £14.

I'm not sure that's mould, no idea what it is, could be salt for preservatives? And the reason I mentioned cleaning the fridge is not because it's dirty but say it was on a plate not wrapped with other foods half open the bacteria may spread

It's not been salted - just hung I think.
