AIBU TO BUY A PUSHCHAIR FOR DD'S AGE 5 AND 7?

AIBU to buy a pushchair this year to go to Orlando? Sold our pushchair a while back but we are going to Orlando in late July and it's going to be really bloody hot. We are planning on spending the majority of the 2 weeks at the parks. We walk to and from from school every day which takes 30 minutes and the 5 year old is tired by the time she gets home. Both of them were knackered when we went to Thorpe Park this year. I know people will be judgey if we do but I actually want to enjoy this holiday. AIBU to take a pushchair, not for them to sit in all the time but just as a means of a little respite?

I think they probably won't need it and they will be too big to fit in a standard pushchair at that age. My eldest 2 are similar ages and we've done legoland/Alton towers/eurodisney/ London trips with them in the last couple of years with no pushchair (well, baby was in it) with no problems.
Can you hire one of those plastic pushchairs from the park if you need it? They have a much bigger seat and you're not stuck pushing it all day.

I think your biggest challenge will be to find one commercially available within the safe weight limits of use tbh

I was going to say YABU but then I saw you wanted it for Orlando in which case YANBU - It's common to see children that age in pushchairs in the theme parks

I'd hire one out there. You'd struggle to get an easily transportable double that would fit children of those ages I think.

Huh? I have a 7 year old, I've no idea how he'd either fit in a pushchair not could I push the damn thing. 7 is very much old enough to walk. I'm sure the Disney-distractions will stave off any claims of tiredness.

Unless they're very slight indeed you will need a specialist buggy which is ££££.

In all honesty I would just chill out when you get there. Take lots of breaks. You may find that when she's distracted the 5yo can walk far further anyway - certainly works on mine who claims exhaustion after ten minutes of the school run Hmm but walked up hill and down dale in the forest this afternoon looking for interesting sticks.

Alternatively you could look at taking microscooters or similar.

Get the buggys from the parks, they are big enough for 2 and you can dump all your stuff in it too.

Just hire one at the park. We hired from DLP and it was a godsend. Easily fitted 3 DC on at once.

You might just about fit a 5 yeR old, but not a 7 year old. Why can't you sit down from time to time.

I am sure they will be distracted enough for it not to be an issue and I doubt you find one with weight requirements except for one designed for children with particular needs which I imagine would be expensive. I imagine they have the buggies you can hire!

I think if a child is so physically exhausted that they can no longer walk then I'd call it a day and take them back to the hotel. Holidays are supposed to be relaxing, surely?

YABU. I went there last year and there were loads of kids of 6/7/8/9/10 in them clogging the place up, they looked ridiculous. Make them walk like normal children, enough with the mollycoddling.

We're also going to Orlando for two weeks end of July! Id defo avoid buggies - I'm suprised the 7 year old would need one or even want to use one?

Where are you staying? We are staying onsite purely for the heat reasons so we can do say 9-2 at the park, go back for swim then return after 6/7pm. My kids are 8&10 so older - most holidays mine are still going past 11pm thought appreciate your 5yo may not last as long.

I'd plan early short days or go later for the late night followed by lie in the next day. You could always book reservations for lunch tk get out of the heat. I've done that some days too

I hear you but you have to pay for the park buggy's per day and have to change to go to different parks. 5 year old could easily fit in a standard pushchair as she's tiny. 7 year could sit for 15 mins in one if she was desperate. We are probably never going to be able to afford to go again. I want them to enjoy it and see everything (and I want to enjoy it too)

If no SN then YABU. At that age a buggy would be ridiculous. Maybe they just are not fit enough for their age? Do they spend a lot of time sedentary?

If you think it will work for you then take one. My 9 year old still uses one. He has sn. I hate it when people judge about buggies.

No, Sally. They walk to school 30 mins there and back. They are physically perfectly healthy. However, I think being out walking non stop in the scorching heat (which they are not used to) from 9am to 6pm will be exhausting for them (me too probably).

We hire the double plastic one when we go to alton towers. My dc are 6 and 4. Glad to hear they also have then in dlp!

I think a seven year old would be very difficult to push and even a five year old would be pretty heavy. Plus it would be a pain to take with you.
Maybe see how you go without and if it becomes a problem you could always rent one there. The pushchairs they have accomodate much older children than standard pushchairs so might be more comfortable.
It is likely though they will be fine with lots of breaks as it is a very interesting environment which should distract them from feeling tired.

If you want to fit lots in and can't shorten your days, why not go for foldable scooters. You and DH could pull them along if they get tired.

Just get one! Disney is hot and exhausting and a jet lagged over excited 5 year old may well need a rest. Your 7 year old can take a turn if needed as you said but it sounds like you mainly want it for the 5 year old.

It sounds like this will make your holiday more fun and more relaxed for everyone! You know your kids, if you think that then go for it. You can get cheap ones for about £30 or even buy one in Florida from Walmart!

Go for it and don't worry about what Everyone else thinks.
