To clean out friend's fridge?

House/cat-sitting for friends for a couple of weeks while they are on holiday and we are between houses. WIBU to clean their rather grimy fridge and throw away some of the multitude of out of date jars? Found a few from 2013!

Verticalvenetianblinds · 30/04/2016 21:21

Are u using the fridge? Then I'd clean it, but maybe not throw anything out....

Toffeecrispy · 30/04/2016 21:21

I would if they have an issue at least you can replace with updated food jars

daisywhoopsie · 30/04/2016 21:21

YABU but I wouldn't be able to resist.

YABU

MarthaCliffYouCunt · 30/04/2016 21:21

I's love that! Grin having said that i also have to really fight the urge to tidy in other people's homes Blush maybe not nest person to answer.

PattiLevin · 30/04/2016 21:22

I'd love it if you came round my house and started cleaning stuff.

Oysterbabe · 30/04/2016 21:22

That would be incredibly rude.

starfishmummy · 30/04/2016 21:23

Hmmm. Cleaning it is probably ok, as you have to use it. Stick all their jars on one shelf and ignore them.

TooManyJars · 30/04/2016 21:23

Yes using the fridge! There's not much space... I could give it a bit of a clean and get rid of anything with obvious mould?

Do you want my addressGrin

MiamiBound · 30/04/2016 21:24

you cant

if its out of date from 2013 they would have thrown it away if they wanted to

might be outing.... but my sister cleaned out my mums fridge (replaced old with brand new).... she didnt talk to her for 3 months

Lilaclily · 30/04/2016 21:25

If it's growing mould then yes I would

angryangryyoungwoman · 30/04/2016 21:27

I have quite a few jars in the fridge that are around that date! Mostly mustards. I still use them though, I don't think I'd appreciate someone throwing them away but cleaning out the fridge is a nice gesture.

When I clean mine, I wipe down the jars and put them back in though!

wallywobbles · 30/04/2016 21:29

Mouldy you can bin. Everything else probably not. I'd collect everything out of date into one space and say that's all out of date but your choice.

gingerboy1912 · 30/04/2016 21:35

If you're house sitting and using the fridge and it's got mould on it meaning it's obviously not been used for yonks then yes throw it out.

Verticalvenetianblinds · 30/04/2016 21:35

Bin the mouldy/contaminated and clean but be prepared for them not to be v pleased. I'd be thrilled if someone did it for me! That and cleaning behind things (oven, dishwasher etc) they are minging and I keep quite a tidy house!

GruffaloMoggy · 30/04/2016 21:39

Oh god Id be itching to bleach clean it & chuck the lot. But no you cant. Sorry. Its a step too far!

ExitPursuedByABear · 30/04/2016 21:39

Did my fridge today and had to steel myself to throw out jars well past their dates.

If they are mingers like me they probs won't even notice.

TooManyJars · 30/04/2016 21:39

There are a lot of mustards! Who knew they could keep so long Wink ok, will clean but not throw, or throw just a couple of really bad ones. I'm not a clean freak at all but I'm surprised at the state of friend's fridge tbh! They're very easy-going so might just laugh and says thanks if I did a deep clean but probably shouldn't risk it.

OP posts:
Topseyt · 30/04/2016 21:40

Throw it out. I would bet that they have forgotten most of it is there anyway.

TooManyJars · 30/04/2016 21:42

Oh and thinking of doing the oven tomorrow...

I'm sure there are jars in my fridge that have a sell by date of 2013 - but usually they are ones like hot sauce where I've made more and used an old bottle, or where I didn't even open the jar until a few months ago. Are any of them mouldy/ do they smell bad?
