It was a mug in the communal kitchen so didn't have an official owner. I deliberately threw it at he floor twice and put it in the bin. It's crime was the large letters that said "I hate thin people".

What a horrible thing to do.

StillYummy · 30/04/2016 17:23

Colleague!!!

You sound lovely, have a Biscuit

NannawifeofBaldr · 30/04/2016 17:24

So criminal damage is acceptable as long as you don't like the mug?

Could you just put it in the bin?

MiddleClassProblem · 30/04/2016 17:26

You're a dick

expatinscotland · 30/04/2016 17:27

But you'd keep one that read, 'I hate twats'.

Littleallovertheshop · 30/04/2016 17:28

Did you? Really?

VagueIdeas · 30/04/2016 17:28

No big deal then - it didn't have an owner and it was a bit offensive.

Criminal damage? Hardly.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 30/04/2016 17:30

Well that's a bit pathetic.

NannawifeofBaldr · 30/04/2016 17:36

Vague.

DEFINITION - LEGAL: DESTROYING OR DAMAGING PROPERTY. CRIMINAL DAMAGE ACT 1971 SEC 1. (1) “A person who without lawful excuse destroys or damages any property belonging to another. intending to destroy or damage any such property or being reckless as to whether any such property would be destroyed or damaged …”.

Now I grant you that no one is likely to charge her with it but it is an accurate description of what she has done.

The mug wasn't hers and she broke it deliberately.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 30/04/2016 17:38

I mean, smashing it was bad and you shouldn't have done it. But seriously? That's a super offensive mug. Can you imagine anyone having a mug that read 'I hate fat people?' Totally not ok. I'd have taken it up with them rather than smash it though...

StillYummy · 30/04/2016 17:38

I would keep I hate twats (because people can help being twats. People can't help being thin), but maybe not in the office. It defo didn't have an owner as it has been knocking round a while in the unwashed area. The bin wasn't enough, it was too offensive.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 30/04/2016 17:38

It seems like you're suffering from extremely low self esteem, if a mug can get you to that point.
I can see if you are uncomfortable with your body shape and fat or thin anyone can be. Just because you're a size 0 doesn't mean. You're going to oozing with confidence, and just because you're a size 32 doesn't necessarily mean you're going to be a wall flower.
And if you're having a bad day. That comment could have upset you, but honestly smashing a cup up all over the kitchen really is bat shit crazy. If someone had came in and seen you. They'd have thought you'd gone beserk.

Narp · 30/04/2016 17:39

No-one comes out well from this

But getting all legalistic about a mug is as disproportionate as the OP venting about a twatty message on a mug.

That's assuming this is true

lulucappuccino · 30/04/2016 17:40

What would you have done with a
"I hate people with no sense of humour and aggressive tendencies"
mug?

NannawifeofBaldr · 30/04/2016 17:40

Really, you found it offensive?

Being thin isn't a protected status you know! I'm a size 8, I'd find it - bit pathetic And feel sorry for who we bought it but it's not offensive.

Palomb · 30/04/2016 17:41

I want one of these..

Wow. Is this a joke thread? Although I can't take seriously anything posted by an adult with the "y" word as part of their username

ilovesooty · 30/04/2016 17:42

I'd have felt it inappropriate in terms of its potential to cause offence but smashing it was childish and posting this thread iis attention seeking.

leelu66 · 30/04/2016 17:43

The cleaner has to clean up little sharp shards of crockery...did you think of that before you smashed the mug?

MangoBiscuit · 30/04/2016 17:43

I wouldn't have smashed it, but I do think that mug is extremely poor in taste. Would those who find it funny still find it funny if it said "I hate female people", "I hate ginger people" or "I hate black people" ?
