4 cats 1 dog and a baby - in a 1 bed apartment?

YABU

ChemistryHunt · 16/03/2016 21:28

YABU. It sounds stressful for all involved, human and not.

grannytomine · 16/03/2016 21:30

I did have a toddler, a baby, two dogs and 3 cats but I was in a 4 bedroomed detached house. I think I was mad never mind unreasonable. Do you find it hard to cope with them all? If you do then maybe rehome some of them?

EverySongbirdSays · 16/03/2016 21:30

Depends on how big the rest of the apartment is - how spacious the main living space if it's tiny but would be fine fr you and DC alone then it's unfair on the animals who don't like being cooped up, if the main living area fits all 5 of you comfily then no problem.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:31

Well the cats are already here. Others are hypothetical.

Don't get a dog if you're planning a baby.

ChemistryHunt · 16/03/2016 21:32

I would definitely think about moving to a larger place before expanding.

Do you have a garden with easy access where you are?

In my experience dogs and babies take up a lot more room than cats!

BYOSnowman · 16/03/2016 21:33

I assume there will be two adults as well!!

I think it is too much. And why get a dog and a baby at the same time? Sounds unnecessarily stressful for you and the cats

No, no garden :)

TrappedInAWitchesCurse · 16/03/2016 21:33

So you don't have a dog or a baby? I'd pick one or the other tbh it'd be the baby.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:33

Lol I'm not 'getting' a baby! I just miss having a dog but am also planning a baby in the near future.

OP posts:
BYOSnowman · 16/03/2016 21:38

You won't miss having a dog when you have a young baby. I would wait for the dog. One bed would prob be ok with baby and the cats though. Do you have a longer term plan for a bigger property?

ChemistryHunt · 16/03/2016 21:39

I would definitely hold off on the dog. Space wise it is not the best. Especially once you have a baby and will not be as available to drop everything to take the dog out when they need to excel use or use the loo!

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:39

Yes, hopefully when the baby is about 2.

OP posts:
Crispbutty · 16/03/2016 21:39

You might miss it, but it wouldnt be fair on the dog, or the cats to have one in a flat with no garden. YABU.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:40

Hehe that's some smart dig who mastered excel, I still struggle Grin (I know it was autocorrect!)

OP posts:
AliceInUnderpants · 16/03/2016 21:41

Unfair. Animals need a safe space they can retreat to. They wouldn't have that.

ChemistryHunt · 16/03/2016 21:41

Grin If only I could train a dog to do my spreadsheets. Would make work a lot less dull!

Artandco · 16/03/2016 21:42

We have two adults and two children in a one bed apartment. Works great. No pets though.

( although Ds bought a snail in recently and tried to let him live in the bath - until Dh threw it out the window in disgust!)

flanjabelle · 16/03/2016 21:42

Well there is me, dd, dcat, ddog and some of the time dp here in a two bed flat. It feels cramped sometimes. There are a lot of times that I feel like I am falling over animals or a toddler and bumping into dp and it's a large flat. The dog follows me everywhere and is the biggest problem. I think because cats are at all levels they aren't such an issue for floor space. Dogs are and toddlers are. Think about all the stuff that comes along with a baby too, that takes up so much room.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 16/03/2016 21:45

Very unreasonable.

lorelei9 · 16/03/2016 21:48

Sounds grim for all concerned

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:48

Cot/Moses basket? Not sure what else - clothes and stuff, toys?
