4 cats 1 dog and a baby - in a 1 bed apartment?

Me and the cats are happy lorelai :)

I have two cats and a toddler in a two bed flat and would quite happily give away the cats most days as they get under my feet/make the place smell/get chased by the toddler.
I don't think 4 cats and a baby/toddler would be a good idea and definitely not a dog as well.
(I do love my cats really but could do with more space from each other and so they can escape the toddler more easily)

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:53

In all honesty, I wouldn't have had the cats if I'd known where I was going to live, but it happened and we are OK :)

OP, you and the cats, sure
My comment was on adding dog and baby

Anyway, cats are way better than babies and dogs! Why add those to the mix?

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:54

Fair enough lorelai :)

Baby is non negotiable. Dog - fair dos :)

I think you are going to be very surprised at how much stuff a tiny little baby can bring with it!

MrsBobDylan · 16/03/2016 21:56

A baby is only small but the crap they come with in the early days...shesh, it's unbelievable. Yabu to even think about getting a dog and having a baby together.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:57

I daresay you are right! Grin

bloodymaria · 16/03/2016 21:57

Yab totally u

4 cats is too many especially if they aren't getting outside - very stressful for them. Please consider your existing pets before adding a dog into the mix.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 21:59

They do go outside :)

The amount of baby stuff varies. You really don't need much but most people buy loads. Ours honestly took up very little space at babies. It's only since 4 years we bought them beds ( don't know why though as they still share ours most the time)

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 22:02

Hoping just for cot, clothes, a few toys, little bath.

Prob end up being tonnes more but intentions are good!

OP posts:
SisterMoonshine · 16/03/2016 22:03

dogs, cats and little people need to be able to get away from each other.

Yellowbird54321 · 16/03/2016 22:03

Not sure why BYO is assuming there will be two adults!

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 22:05

To be fair most people do live together when they procreate, although this is not the case for me.

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 16/03/2016 22:08

Hoping just for cot, clothes, a few toys, little bath.

Rocker chair
High chair
Pram/buggy
Nappies
Wipes
Bath stuff
Sterliser/bottles if you dont EBF
All the other bits and bobs that dont take any space on their own but soon add up.......

Good luck with that!
Oh and its never a few toys, trust me on this

Artandco · 16/03/2016 22:11

Bogey -

Rocker chair - didn't have
High chair - didn't have
Pram/buggy - had, stored in car
Nappies - in basket in bathroom
Wipes - in basket in bathroom
Bath stuff - nothing apart from normal
Bathe etc Dh and I already had
Sterliser/bottles - none

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 22:13

A pram would have to live in the car, am on second floor and no lift.

Rocker chair, possibly.
High chair, wouldn't have thought so as the kitchen is tiny and you can't eat in it.
Nappies and wipes would live in the bathroom.
Would hope to breastfeed but yes best laid plans and all.

OP posts:
HamaTime · 16/03/2016 22:22

If you don't have room for a highchair then you don't have room for a dog. I don't know wtf my dcs had as babies but I know they take up less space now - except maybe the 7 year old. And except for coats and shoes which fill the house for some reason. One coat and no shoes when they were babies was easier.

pinkflowerbluesky · 16/03/2016 22:23

In the kitchen :)

notquitehuman · 16/03/2016 22:24

I've done one baby, two cats, plus myself and DH in a one bedroom flat. One of the cats was mostly an outdoor pet though. With property prices being so insane, it seems to happen more and more now.

A storage unit helps. I did a sling instead of a pram, and DS kept lots of his toys at grandparents house.

MargaretCabbage · 16/03/2016 22:30

We have four cats (can access outside but all stay indoors bar the occasional sniff around for a few minutes) and a toddler in a two bedroom flat and it's fine, lots of high places for the cats to hang out separately or together. Adding any sort of dog into the mix would be a nightmare though.

BYOSnowman · 16/03/2016 22:46

Well if there is only one adult I think that does make a difference as you only have one adults load of stuff in there so you will have a lot more space for baby stuff.

Still think the dog idea is bad as it will need walking etc and you are unlikely to be up for doing that when you are exhausted or mid feed etc

(As it wasn't specified how many adults I don't think it is outrageous to assume two as that is the more likely scenario)

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2016 01:00

you can get lightweight pushchairs from birth. 5kg. easy to carry upstairs one handed.

now the double buggly on the other hand...

Tamberlane · 17/03/2016 01:21

4 cats in that small a space already sounds cramped.cats if given the choice prefer not to be in close quaters with many of their own kind and in cases of cats of inappropriatw urination issues(ie cats going to the bathroom where they shouldnt) its often stress and living in a multicat/animal household thats the root cause.on the other side of things id imagine if they are outdoor/indoor cats they will likely just rehome themselves if you add a baby and dog!its not uncommon for cats to jump ship to new owners when stressed.(ungratefully little beggers)i love cats btw..but cant deny they are complicated little critters.

Adding a dog to this setup would be selfish and imo cruel to your exisiting pets...
