If you dont know how to twitter, why do you come here and ask, have you heard of google???

So many times I see on a complaint style thread "i dont know how to twitter" its not hard, you can post here? you can post on twitter...

(grumpy rant over)

I don't know how to twitter but then I'm not a bird. I do however know how to tweet on Twitter. But I don't judge those who can't. just those who use incorrect terminology
Wind yer neck in love.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 09:45

I didnt put tweet, as this is not just about 'tweeting' its about using twitter in general - like "i dont know how to google"

Twitter is more than 'tweeting', its following etc

but thanks for the lesson, and my neck is fine

I think sometimes people say they don't know how to Twitter, even though they know it should be tweet, just to show that they think it's silly and beneath them.

acasualobserver · 12/03/2016 09:52

My husband has very patiently tried to explain Twitter to me a few times but I'm not sure if I've totally got it. And I'm not thick - honest.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2016 09:54

People ask stuff on MN because others may have hints and useful suggestions about things. it's sort of the way it works. Confused

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 09:57

I think my irritation is more about the "i dont know how to xyz" i wouldn't come on here and say "can someone tell me how to email"?

Its not the "can someone explain how to do this complicated specialist knitting technique that i cant quite get my head round" or "whats the best way you have found to clean your cooker hood"? those are asking for experienced help which MN is amazing for

Its more like "I dont know how to use a washing machine" type..
If i dont know how to do something, I will google it first

OP posts:
londonrach · 12/03/2016 09:58

Never twitted. Always used to think its something to do with birds but have been corrected its something to do with instant messages. Im fully google, fb and mn trained!!!!!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/03/2016 09:58

Twitter is like TK Max for me.

When other people go in there they come out with gems.

I always find myself wading through crap.

acasualobserver · 12/03/2016 10:02

What appears very simple to you, OP, might seem complicated to others.

Songofsixpence · 12/03/2016 10:03

I don't really get Twitter.

I mean, I know how to use it, I have an account that I have used a couple of times, I just don't get the point of it all and don't like it very much

I'm not snobbish about social media, I use Facebook, Instagram, etc. Twitter just isn't for me

MrsJayy · 12/03/2016 10:26

Well you are a little ray of sunshine eh if we googled ha
Lf the stuff thats asked on here mumsnet would have tumbleweed going through. I have no interest in twitter i dont know how to use it i found it dull and a bit self centered but different strokes and all that

sugar21 · 12/03/2016 10:31

I had a twitter account but I deleted it because I found it difficult to be limited on a letter count. Also rude people were being obnoxious with their tweets. I can do without that sort of shit

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 10:35

MrsJayy - you do know how AIBU works? Its somewhere we can come and rant if we want to - I'm ok if people think IABU, but really ? "little ray of sunshine"

Are you adding that little gem to all the AIBU threads or saving it for me?

OP posts:
5BlueHydrangea · 12/03/2016 10:40

You do sound quite grumpy unicorn

MardyBra · 12/03/2016 10:44

"Its more like "I dont know how to use a washing machine" type.." (sic)

But people don't say "I don't know how to washing machine". Confused

MardyBra · 12/03/2016 10:44

Sorry posted too soon. Just wanted to point out that Twitter is a noun, not a verb.

MardyBra · 12/03/2016 10:46

I'm with Sinister btw. It's all too disjointed for me.

PageStillNotFound404 · 12/03/2016 10:48

I don't know how to tumble dryer Mardy. I shrink about 25% of everything I put in it. Maybe it would work for me if I learned how to verb.

OhShutUpThomas · 12/03/2016 10:52

I have never understood Twitter.

I've tried, I've Googled, I even joined.

But I just DONT GET IT.

So yes, if someone could explain twitter to me in words of one syllable that would be great.

MrsJayy · 12/03/2016 10:52

Oh dearie me I was trying to be light hearted and tease you but think I am going back away from this thread because you are a grumpy faced unreasonable git

xenapants · 12/03/2016 10:53

I'm with you, OP. It's really not rocket science either to use these things properly in the first place or find out how to.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2016 10:55

It's good to have people who have already done stuff to explain it to you and tell you how to get the most out of it etc.

Hide Thread is a very underused function.

PageStillNotFound404 · 12/03/2016 10:55

I like Twitter for its immediacy. I find out about news and sporting events far quicker on Twitter than via any other medium.

I never catch the gems in real time that go viral, possibly because I tend to just follow certain people rather than trending topics. But there are some very funny people on there.

StitchesInTime · 12/03/2016 10:56

Washing machines can be complicated. The controls vary between different models.

I had real problems working out how to use MIL's washing machine when we were staying there for a week and needed to do some washing. It wasn't anything like our washing machine. DH couldn't figure it out either. We had to get MIL to explain it to us.

PageStillNotFound404 · 12/03/2016 11:00

But to get back on topic...

If I wanted an opinion or personal experiences, I'd ask Mumsnet or similar. If I wanted to know how to do something technical or look up a fact, I'd Google.

The first time I heard of Periscope, I was all "WTF" so I googled it to find out what it was. But if I wanted to learn how to use it, after downloading it and fiddling about (possibly unsuccessfully) I might then come here and say "does anyone use Periscope? I'm struggling to get started, any useful tips?" because often people have learned shortcuts or hacks that Google won't immediately tell you, even if you know how to phrase the search in the first place.

So you're not entirely BU OP, but you are a little bit. Grin
