If you dont know how to twitter, why do you come here and ask, have you heard of google???

So many times I see on a complaint style thread "i dont know how to twitter" its not hard, you can post here? you can post on twitter...

(grumpy rant over)

I'm the same, 404. I've created a list for local news and travel that I find incredibly useful.

And I love the strict character limit. Has taught me how to concise :o

MrsJayy · 12/03/2016 11:06

But this is a chat forum people chat ask questions like the interaction thats why the ask trivial questions I think you think mumsnet is for important issues sometimes we jusr post twaddle, asking how do you do twitter is just 1 of those questions that is going to irritate you

Lweji · 12/03/2016 11:14

This was funny
MrsJayy - you do know how AIBU works?

You should have looked it up.

It's mostly where people get a roasting if they are being unreasonable.
As you may be finding out...

UKITworker · 12/03/2016 11:14

I have never understood Twitter.

I've tried, I've Googled, I even joined.

But I just DONT GET IT.

This is me to. It's not so much the how as the why and the what. I don't understand really what it does, but to the extent I do, I don't understand why I would want that. (I don't do facebook either, but at least I can sort of see the point of it.)

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 11:23

I don't mind a YABU, but you could apply that to at least half of the threads here

To be honest I wouldn't mind an actual 'I don't understand twitter' thread, or a 'how to get the best out of it' it's the 'I have a complaint and I would use twitter if I knew how...' type ones

OP posts:
honeyroar · 12/03/2016 11:27

I can't work twitter out at all. I do forums and Facebook but can't do Twitter.

So what if people ask questions you deem as pointless. Ignore it and move onto a thread that doesn't irritate you. It's easy!

So yes YABU.

jlivingstone · 12/03/2016 11:32

I the third form of the verb 'twitter'*, 'twat'? That would be very apt as you are extremely U!

*Although clearly a noun

WicksEnd · 12/03/2016 11:33

Get back in bed and roll out of it again the other side unicorn Brew

Lweji · 12/03/2016 11:38

I take back what I said ealier.
It does look like you do understand the concept of AIBU, OP.

AIBU?
Yes. Yes. Yes...
No I'm not.
Yes you are (100x).
No I'm not!

OurBlanche · 12/03/2016 11:42

And, just to amuse you even more... this is a longstanding IT support joke, but happened to a friend just before Christmas.

Email conversation, from new client to friend, IT bod, who built him a web page and set up an email account linked to it. She had included email training and used her email address for him to send/receive messages:

Client: My email account doesn't work properly
IT: Oh? Can you tell me what is happening?
Client: I am trying to email my friend and tell him all about the new business but the email just says that it cannot be sent
IT: OK. Can you tell me what you are typing in the address box?
Client: Oh I know his address, he has lived in the same place for years
IT: Can you show me the address?
Client: XXX Street, XXX Town, XXX City PostCode
IT: I will come and see you tomorrow
Client: Well, I hope you can fix it. I have tried others and they don't work either.

And yes, some people use MN as a Google substitute. So what?
No point in getting arsey with them. Google for them or leave them be. Maybe tease them a bit by linking to Let me Google that for you"

But, sometimes there's so much buried info that it is easier to get someone to explain it to you and offer personal experiences in condensed form.
That's why there are lots of forums dedicated to people asking questions and getting answers. Some people just use MN instead.
That is why YABU, OP, and getting flack for ranting. Particularly as you clearly don't know AIBU is the most dangerous place to put a rant. It can lead to bloodshed.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2016 11:51

I would much rather have a recommendation from someone on MN than trawling the internet for hours.

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 12:12

I think my issue is that its easier to get the information you need by looking online, than to post randomly on a thread about something else.

Fair enough most of you think IABU - I am surprised by just how much you think IABU, as I am more 'a bit irritated' than actually stabby about it.

Its amazing what people can read into something you didnt intend (lesson for me to re-read what I write in many different ways)

pretty old stuff, but my favourite is still the 'too stupid to own a computer'

I could say the very same about the many subjects that I am accomplished at and see questions about on here, but that the thing everyone has things they are good at and understand, and many things they don't know.

I enjoy trying to help people and share information, if you don't scroll pass and leave it for others to engage with.

Have you ever asked a question on a forum?

FellOffMyUnicorn · 12/03/2016 12:54

Oh yes, I use forums all the time definitely - and i love MN for the weird and wonderful stuff you get here

Maybe its the 'lethargic' -ness of it, 'oh i would do it, but i dont know how so i wont bother' maybe thats the bit that annoys?

I agree with you that it's annoying when people who don't use Twitter think that they could get a company to do anything just by joining and tweeting.

I disagree that asking how to use Twitter is like asking how to use email.
People usually know what they want to do with email - they want to send a message from them to another person.

People aren't asking "what buttons do I press in order to send a tweet?", they are asking how to USE Twitter - asking what it is all about.

It's tricky really because different people use Twitter for different purposes. You might use it to promote a business, or to maintain a network of friends, or simply as a curated list of things to read.
