To wear day cream on a night shift?

Talking to my DM the other day (who is in many respects a bit bonkers) and she asked about the face cream she bought me for Christmas and I said 'yeah it's great although I've nearly ran out of the day cream and still have half a tube of night cream'. She was puzzled until I explained that because I work a lot of night shifts I wear the day cream during the day before my first shift and then again for when I'm at work, I then put the night cream on when I come home to sleep but on my last night I sometimes stay up so have a shower when I get home and put the day cream on again.

You'd think I had just admitted to slathering my face in horse manure judging by her reaction Confused as apparently night cream must always be worn at night because the 'air is different' and other gems. I think she's talking pish.

However now I'm throwing it over to you lot and if i am indeed BU then I will concede defeat to my mother (but probably still do it my way as the night cream is too oily to wear under makeup).

Well I would think the night cream is to wear when you sleep and the day cream when your awake and maybe wearing makes up

Different air is bonkers, but funny

Night cream is, IME, much richer and best saved for times when you aren't exoected to look good rather, shiny and greasy

The night cream won't have an SPF. The day cream might and it's probably better for your skin not to have the SPF if you don't need it.

Having said that, it's your face cream. Wear it how you like Smile

For clarity - it's not night air that makes it different, it's a heavier formula that doesn't need to mattify/tighten/brighten/etc.

Day cream has to have SPF which I find clogs pores (for me). Night cream is traditionally richer too.

I don't bother with SPF for night shifts, which is what's in day cream. I also get yucky skin on nights, feeling dry etc. So I use Nivea cream in the blue pot.

Putting on SPF 15 at night would be a bit odd...

I don't think you can overdo day cream but night cream is richer so for example you wouldn't want to wear makeup over night cream. It can't tell the time so I'm fairly sure you haven't broken any laws Grin

Day cream for up and about, possibly with makeup on top.
Night cream for sleeping whilst your skin renews and rejuvenates and all that shit.

I would wear night cream when I'm in the house preparing to sleep and don't mind my face looking like an oil slick.
Day cream is if skin isn't as dry. And under make up and when I don't want to look like an oil slick.
I'm fairly certain your face won't explode if you wear day cream after the sun goes down!

I've worn day cream at night and have survived.

I often think that having to buy different creams for day, night, under eyes etc is just a big marketing ploy to make us buy more. My mum is another Nivea in the blue pot fan, and has really good skin.

OP I sympathise - is your mum retired? If so it could be morning TV - my mum comes out with all sorts of shite that she sees on This Morning and Lorraine. She once said SPF factors indicate how often you should put that sun cream on. For example, SPF15 should be applied every 15 minutes. I told her that is total bollocks as people who use SPF2 would literally never stop putting it cream on - they'd be rubbing themselves all day! But Phil and Fearne told her so it must be true Hmm

I wear day cream when at work, irrespective of the time of day. Spf can still be useful, if driving home in bright sunlight.
Night cream is more appropriate for sleeping, day or night.

Night cream is for sleeping in. It's too rich and thick (generally) for daytime/make up base unless you want greasy looking skin.
