Now then, careful now. No false allegations please. But according to the Mirror, he's been axed by the BBC as he's now linked to an incident in 1971.

Oh dear that's not good. So sad the poor girl killed herself shortly afterwards. So obviously something happened. Guess we will never know. Disappointed if he was involved.

I don't know - it all seems a bit confusing. I want to believe him. But as you say Destiny - she killed herself. Whatever happened, the poor girl had issues which she couldn't deal with

Can the BBC sack someone for something that happened 41yrs ago when there Is no evidence? I wonder on what grounds he has been sacked. I would have thought they were on shaky ground at best.

Peggy, the article said they sacked him because his version of events at the time does not tally with theirs.

It says the Dame Janet Review didn't find him guilty of anything, but the BBC reckon he was interviewed by people at the time, he remembers differently.

Something happened to the girl (I read about it all a while back, so am a bit hazy on it), but it was never followed up or investigated and ultimately she killed herself - I think it involved more than one incident though and I don't think she named names in her diary).

He seems to suggest that this is punishment for him not toeing the line and agreeing when the BBC say they investigated events at the time.

so perhaps after all these years he can't remember what he was doing decades ago....

Maybe the reason that the poor girl killed herself was not because something happened but because nothing happened. Perhaps she was infatuated with Tony Blackburn; many girls had him as their pin up at the time, he was very popular and good-looking.
In 1971, 15 was the school leaving age and many girls of that age were already in work and had financial independence from their parents.
It was a different world to that of today. People grew up faster and joined the adult world. I know that the age of consent was 16 then, as now, but at 15 we were not regarded as children, by ourselves or by society in general.

80sMum so true....i grew up before then and I know that girls that age were planning how they would rid them selves of their virginity. it was a different time.

I'd encourage everyone to take the time to read TB's statement. He has been found guilty of nothing. The BBC have sacked him as he did not agree with their version of events. I am fed up with the witch hunting.

I wonder whether the BBC is doing a knee-jerk reaction, probably in response to the flack they got for the live coverage of Cliff Richard's house being raided by the police. That is clumsily put. It's late.
