No one from my teenage radio days has been free from aspersions.

Now then, careful now. No false allegations please. But according to the Mirror, he's been axed by the BBC as he's now linked to an incident in 1971.

The Mirror's Thursday front page

AIBU to think WTF?

It did Samcro. It's now plugged into the socket which is why I'm typing in the kitchen and not in the luxury of a comfy sofa.

The Macains? Are you referring to chips?

Yup, let's keep this above the line everyone. I'm expressing shock that TB is plastered across the Mirror.

OP posts:
BunnyTyler · 24/02/2016 23:31

Why is it unwise?
It's commenting on a headline story in tomorrow's paper.
If you read the article linked to, it clearly says that Tony Blackburn has made a very public statement about his unfair treatment by the BBC. It says that the review which is due for release imminently found nothing to incriminate him.

Samcro · 24/02/2016 23:33

a head line story that has no real proof....

so can we talk about the mcains.....no

I hope mn hq delete soon

BillSykesDog · 24/02/2016 23:33

I'm starting to feel increasingly uncomfortable with the fact extra judicial justice seems to be carried out on the say so of a single unsubstantiated allegation (similar to the discredited 'Nick' allegations).

What's disturbing about this is that if Blackburn is right, he's not even been sacked because of the alleged offence, but because he's refused to cooperate with a belated arse covering exercise by the BBC.

The BBC is claiming that the mother's claims were taken seriously and he was interviewed by two (now deceased) senior members of staff. Blackburn denies this ever happened and the BBC are being deliberately evasive about the records which show this and are insisting that they did do something. Essentially it appears Blackburn has been sacked for refusing to toe the BBC line that they acted.

It all seems dodgy. I hope he sues.

MyNameIsAlexDrake · 24/02/2016 23:33

From reading the article, this is scandalous. Tony Blackburn is absolutely being made a scapegoat for the BBC. Shocking behaviour from the BBC. They have been aware of the original allegation since 1971 (which may have been withdrawn a few weeks later by the mother, the article is not too clear on this).

There is not a shred of evidence that he did any wrongdoing. Only a diary from a teenage girl who tragically took her life, a diary which also contained allegations about others. Quite rightly no action was taken against Tony in 1971 without any evidence. It is totally out of line for the BBC to effectively sack him now in an attempt to right their wrongs over the fuck ups and covers ups they did perpetuate through the years.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2016 23:34

An AIBU with OMG in the title about a piece in The Daily Mirror advising everyone not to make any false allegations and to be careful? Well if you think that's wise.....

bessiebumptious2 · 24/02/2016 23:35

I detest the BBC. They are quite a nasty organisation.

BunnyTyler · 24/02/2016 23:36

The headline story does have proof.
It is simply stating the facts of what has happened:

Review finds Tony Blackburn guilty of nothing.

BBC say that because their version of what happened at the time differs with his, they are sacking him.

TB is (understandably) pissed off and is taking legal action.

All facts.

Did you actually read it?

BillSykesDog · 24/02/2016 23:37

Sparkling, report the thread then, and spare us the rather pompous lectures.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2016 23:38

Charming Bill.

BillSykesDog · 24/02/2016 23:39

Well you're the one who started picking apart other people's posts love.

DonkeyOaty · 24/02/2016 23:41

Blimey

Samcro · 24/02/2016 23:41

ODFOD this crappy thread about something in the daily mirror.....YEAH>>>
i hope he sues

BunnyTyler · 24/02/2016 23:41

I do think it's wise to say careful with the false allegations, yes.

Ironically it's the people that want the thread chopped that are perpetuating the idea that he's somehow been implicated, when he hasn't.

The article says that he was cleared by the review - it is the BBC that are acting shady. Again.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2016 23:41

Someone asked why it was unwise. I replied, love.

BillSykesDog · 24/02/2016 23:43

Yes, you replied sneering at another posters post and the media she reads.

I wasn't aware that we were only allowed to post stories from the Guardian.

bessiebumptious2 · 24/02/2016 23:43

Sparkling you haven't actually stated exactly why you think it's unwise?

OurBlanche · 24/02/2016 23:43

And, being scrupulous, most of The Mirror's piece is based on Blackburn's public statement. So he has put this put in the public domain, loudly and angrily. He has not denied the facts of the case, just the assumptions made.

If he is right, the BBC really are continuing to blunder through this. If he is wrong...

BunnyTyler · 24/02/2016 23:45

Was the "ODFOD" to me?!
Lol.
