DD who is 10 is a fan. I do find myself coming in the sitting room and ending up asking who's who and watching Blush

DorothyL · 23/02/2016 21:03

Captivates by all the couple dramas!

Oh, if you like the next step try Dance Academy on Netflix. My 9yo dd and I watched the whole thing and loved every moment. I'm a sucker for things with cool dancing in it! Not bu AT ALL !

SpocksThirdEar · 23/02/2016 21:14

YANBU. All my boys love it - yet would say they hate dancing! I really like it too. Apart from that nasty Lucien (who is Eldon's dad IRL)

I spend far too much time watching CBBC.

abigamarone · 23/02/2016 21:17

My 14 year old son watches this - it's the only kids programme he watches these days.

Chchchchange · 23/02/2016 21:21

Oldspeckledtam I watch Dance ACADEMY! I love it Blush Also a bit hooked on Dance Mom's.

I can't watch the Next Step, the acting is just dire. But I won't judge you for watching it Grin

Catphrase · 23/02/2016 21:24

I've been slowly hooked in as well I'm embarrassed to say.
I sit and wonder whose shagging who in real life

It's so awful it's brilliant.

SwedishEdith · 23/02/2016 22:35

Love it!

DorothyL · 23/02/2016 22:35

It's hilarious how they cut from showing the scene to the person in the chair saying "So I'm practising my duet with Elden"

Also the whole dance battle thing between Elden and "Jorge" Grin

Oh. It's painful. The whole "reality" show which clearly isn't. So many questions left unanswered : do these kids go to school? Where are the parents? Why does blonde guy wear one sock? What was the issue with girl getting a job? Will the gay one ever come out? Why do they always win at the " finals" Etc etc etc

shrunkenhead · 23/02/2016 23:06

Oh Need a Scarf, don't get me started on Fri Download! Too cringe worthy for words. The comedy was the "cool" kids proving how hard it is to be cool and failing spectacularly

thesurreyyouth · 23/02/2016 23:08

Dd3 loves loves loves Next Steps & to her horror Dh has started to watch it with her. She gets so embarrassed when the couples kiss. She's now watching it in a room on her own with the door closed.

notimetoshop · 23/02/2016 23:09

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Next Step. Will they make it to regionals? Will they make it to nationals? Will they make it to internationals? Who knows what series 4 holds....

hazeyjane · 23/02/2016 23:11

I watch with dd1, 9, who is just rehearsing for a dance festival, so is very caught up in the dance-y drama (although the biggest drama in her life is that she has to wear a glittery swimming hat for her dance)

Justyou · 23/02/2016 23:15

I only found out this week it's not real Blush was watching a concert movie thing with dd and at the end the titles came up with their character name ..... And their real name !!! Wtf seriously I couldn't believe it much to the amusement of my dc and dh.

Justyou · 23/02/2016 23:19

Also had fun last summer keep asking dc "are you going?"
"Where?
.......... "To nationals/regionals"
They fell for it every time Grin must start it again.

Fatmomma99 · 23/02/2016 23:29

I'm stunned! The Next Step is the example I give to people with non-CBBC age children about what shite they show to kids.

Acting - dire
Story lines - dire
Hideously self-obsessed/self-important
Shallow
Allows everyone to be all "me, me ME" and gives kids the message this is ok.

Vile, vile, vile, vile, vile.

And my DD comes to me and tells it to me like it's TRUE "James kissed another girl and Rily SAW them!". It's horrible crap.

DorothyL · 24/02/2016 06:32

Of course it's rubbish, but somehow still fascinating!

My 11 year old DS is obsessed by it. And dances ALL the time at home.

But he refuses to take any kind of dance lessons which annoys me hugely.

Then again I think he may have a crush on Eldon and that's why he watches it :)

EnoughAlready999 · 24/02/2016 07:27

I love it but I do miss Emily and her bitchiness and funny expressions. I also love all the boys especially Eldon.

Eldon's dad in real life owns the Canadian Dance Company and I wonder if he is behind the whole series.
