Valentine's card from daughters

Is it weird to send a cute card from my toddler and baby daughter to their dad? My family didn't do this but I thought it might be nice for my 3 year old to pick out a card and a cuddly toy for him.

i would find it odd if my dd gave me a card for valentines TBH.

Fathers day is for that, or my birthday etc.

We do heart crafts - heart biscuits, heart crepe paper decorations etc rather than cards.
If you really want to do a card just do one saying "we love you daddy!"

That's lovely. My dc's have done pictures for us over the years. A good idea is handprints - get them to put their hands flat on the paper with thumbs pressed together to make a heart shape.

I see Valentines in the traditional British sense of romantic love. But if you are American, you'll have other customs so if you want to follow those then do so. It seems your family didn't follow the Amercian version, is your DH from over there?

Each to their own obviously but I find valentines from children to parents a little odd. That's what Father's Day is for.

It would be cute but probably should come from them and they are a bit young at the moment to decide. I can remember making Valentine's cards at primary school -"for someone that you love" - we all did them for our mums. Fast forward thirty years and my son's handmade Valentine's cards from nursery were presented to me. No reason a child wouldn't think to give the card to dad instead (or as well) but really should decide for themselves or its a bit pointless, no?
PS I no longer get cards from my hulking great nearly 11 year old son (sniff!) But I do get my kids each a heart shaped lolly or something for Valentine's.

I think it's a bit strange, and agree with others that that's what fathers' day is for. Mind you, dh and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day at all. Soppy loads of commercial rubbish in my opinion. Bah humbug!

I'm a nanny, my charge and I have made Valentine's Day cards for grandparents, parents and his two best friends. He loves crafts so it gives us something to do! We just did fingerprints hearts all over a piece of white card and glued the card onto red card. We will also make tissue papers roses flowers. I don't see any harm in it.

I also reminded DB to buy a card/order some flowers to be delivered!

Ew. Valentine's is for couples, not just "people in your life who you love". Save it for Father's Day.

I was made to do this, send a card to my father. And sometimes he had to send one to me. I remember being made to go to the shop to get a valentines card (embarrassing enough in itself) so he could give it to me. I didn't want to be in that kind of relationship with my dad, it was my twisted mother's idea. I didn't value a card I'd had to choose for myself. They were weird. It was a weird idea.

I'm sure most childcare providers have a Valentines arts and craft activity for children to make stuff for their parents etc, nothing wrong with it.

However as a pp said, fathers day is for this and i wouldn't do it. Valentines is about 'romantic' love really. IMO anyway.

Do what you want, if you think your DH will like it.

I used to send a card to my Granddad every year. I started after my Grandma died, so i would have been seventeen at the time I started.

Nothing romantic or sexy, just a card to tell him I loved him. I used to write "To Granddad" on it and sign it with a question mark, then deny it was me when he would ring me up and call me a daft bugger.

We both liked it. People can say it's weird all they like but I did love him and it made him happy, so I don't care.

Nothing wrong with it! Kids like to enjoy Valentine's Day too!

I once made a massive card for my mum covered in hearts and saying 'I love you mum' when I was about 8-9. It took me ages. When I have it y her she said Valentine's Day is for couples not parents and children. I was really upset!

I wouldn't do that, but that's just me. Maybe do him a painting instead? Or make some biscuits and let them decorate them?

My birthday is the day before valentines day and I still have my first ever valentines card.

It was from my dad when i was 24 hours old.

Weird. But not surprising.

I think it's bollocks but then I think Valentines' Day, Mothers' Day etc is all a shower of commercialised shit anyway.
