To not want an iphone 6s plus?

OneSteakBake · 21/01/2016 09:38

I need to order a phone today as I need it for work, my other one is absolutely diying. I need an iphone as all my records are in IOS applications and don't want to learn a different operating system

I would like one because:

  • my eyes are really struggling with the smaller screen of my current phone.
  • it will cost me only a few more pounds to go for the 6s plus than the usually cheaper 6s.
  • i have big hands but won't be able to type with one hand.
  • i could use it as a small tablet for work stuff.

I don't want one because:

  • I use the phone a lot as a camera. So I need it to be portable
  • I spend far too much time in internet and I think having a bigger screen on hand will make this internet "addiction" worse.

The phone will stay with me for at least 3 years, so I really need to think about the future...

Which one will you choose?

Typing this on an iPhone 6s Plus. I bloody love it. The screen size is fab but it still fits in my pocket and is as portable as any other phone. It's not that big!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 21/01/2016 09:42

I'd choose the 6 plus if there was negligible cost difference
But the 6 is great and an improvement on the 5 I had before

OneSteakBake · 21/01/2016 09:47

What about holding it in one hand for selfies?

I'm a lone parent with a quickly escaping teenager so, if I can't do selfies quickly, I won't have any photos of family life. (Sad, I know, but I think this is the main issue).

I love my iPhone 6plus. It's stopped me putting my phone down my bra a lot. It has a good camera. Great for reading books on the go too.

a1992 · 21/01/2016 09:49

You can do one handed selfies no problem at all

ShelaghTurner · 21/01/2016 09:50

Yep no problem. Not that I take many but my 8yo seems to manage it often enough HmmSmile

JohnLuther · 21/01/2016 09:50

I'm typing this on a 6S Plus, I had the previous plus model too and I think they're brilliant, one handed selfies are certainly possible!

readyforno2 · 21/01/2016 09:51

Totally fine for one handed selfies. As long as you use the volume buttons instead of the one on the screen.
I love mine. Hate using dh's 5. It's so small and the keypad is TINY. I agree the only issue I have is not putting it in my back pocket

JohnLuther · 21/01/2016 09:51

Oh and the camera is slightly better on the plus models, it has optical image stabilisation so less chance of blurry photos.

Micah · 21/01/2016 09:53

Ive just changed grom the 5 to the 6.

I find the 6 big. I like to hilold the phone in one hand and use my thumb- with the 5 i could reach, the 6 i need two hands as i cant reach the far side of the screen.

I think the 6+ would be even worse.

ComposHatComesBack · 21/01/2016 09:56

YABU to expect an iphone to last three years.

Their fragile screens and non-replaceable batteries seem nowt but a con-trick to keep Apple junkies coming back for more. Battery life is poor when new on the 6s and 6s plus, I can't imagine what it will be like after three years of charging cycles.

Needtobebetter · 21/01/2016 10:02

I have a 6 as I thought the 6 plus would be way to big. However, I really wish I'd gone for the 6 plus because you can do so much on the 6 and a bigger screen would make things easier.

Kirjava · 21/01/2016 10:10

I love my 6 plus. I have small hands and would have to type two handed on either the 6 or 6 plus so chose the bigger screen. I use mine a lot for commuting - reading, watching tv etc. Get a good quality fully protective case.

StarlingMurmuration · 21/01/2016 10:14

Compos,, my iPhone 4s lasted nearly four years, and that's with a toddler who liked to play with it. OP, I got a 6s for Christmas and I think it's just right - not too big or too small.

zgaze · 21/01/2016 10:16

I love my 6plus too, could never go smaller now. I use the camera all the time too, it's great.

OneSteakBake · 21/01/2016 10:17

Compos, my current iphone is 4-5 years old. My iMac 8 years old, and my first mac was retired from service after 16 years.

I have used apple products for almost 25 years, never a single problem, they were retired from service because the software evolved to be too big for the hardware.

The new iphones 6s come with thoughened glass and a stronger metal plate at the back.

(Yes... I guess I'm an aplle junkie blush but all with moderation, I don't follow fashions when it comes to replacing devices)

My 6S plus lasts between 4-5 days on a single charge and I've never smashed a screen, Apple or otherwise .

WoodleyPixie · 21/01/2016 10:21

the 6s will seem huge if you have an older model currently. I went from the 5s to 6s and its great. it took quite a bit of getting used to as it is quite a bit bigger. ds1 (18) has the 6s plus and its huge.

any chance you can pop into a phone shop and compare the two before ordering?

Micah · 21/01/2016 10:26

Compos, i have an iphone 3 still in service, as well as an iphone 4. Also have a first generation ipod (anyone remember the white bricks), currently used as a hard drive. I have a clamshell ibook somewhere, and my original 1992 performa desktop works fine, just isnt fast enough to be practical.

The only apple product i had that broke witgin 3 years was fixed free of charge by apple.

SleepyForest · 21/01/2016 10:27

I have a 6 plus. I absolutely love it. I have no problem with typing or selfies.

ComposHatComesBack · 21/01/2016 10:29

John how the hell have you managed that? Every 6s user I know struggles to make it til bedtime. I know the plus has a bigger battery, but even the most optimistic figures are considerably less than 5 days.

Are you a very light user?

dontaskdonttell · 21/01/2016 10:30

I'm due an upgrade tomorrow and I've been trying to decide whether to go for a 6s or 6 plus!

I'm going to go into the shop tomorrow and talk to the staff and have a feel and a play and see which I prefer in the flesh. I'm tempted by the 6 plus.

This thread has been really helpful!!

JohnLuther · 21/01/2016 10:39

I'm far from a light user but I turn off stuff I don't need, the battery is currently at 38% remaining, 85 hours since the last charge.
