To not want an iphone 6s plus?

I need to order a phone today as I need it for work, my other one is absolutely diying. I need an iphone as all my records are in IOS applications and don't want to learn a different operating system

I would like one because:

  • my eyes are really struggling with the smaller screen of my current phone.
  • it will cost me only a few more pounds to go for the 6s plus than the usually cheaper 6s.
  • i have big hands but won't be able to type with one hand.
  • i could use it as a small tablet for work stuff.

I don't want one because:

  • I use the phone a lot as a camera. So I need it to be portable
  • I spend far too much time in internet and I think having a bigger screen on hand will make this internet "addiction" worse.

The phone will stay with me for at least 3 years, so I really need to think about the future...

Which one will you choose?

I do find I have to charge the 6s plus nightly, but then I use it quite hard - constantly googling something, or playing a game, so I'm not surprised it's not lasting. Easy to get around - I have a charger in the car and one in the office, so it's not been a big deal. The very reason I upgraded from the 5s to the 6s plus was because I had the smallest storage on the 5s, and with baby imminent I needed to be able to store the hundreds of pictures/videos I'm likely to be taking this year, as well as having space for a white noise app, a contractions app, and all those other probably-not-vital-but-helpful baby-related things.

I was worried the s plus was going to be bulky, and although it's definitely bigger than other phones (My dad has a 4s and there's a very noticeable difference between the two) it's still comfortable in my hand, and fits in my jeans pocket without issue.

I think of all your concerns listed in your OP, the only one I'd think possible is that you might spend more time on the iPhone, just because it's more usable being that little bit bigger. I find I'm on the phone a lot - initially it was a ploy to stop me snacking - if I was partway through a game of sudoku or similar then I wasn't walking out to the kitchen to scavenge for food. Then it sort of became a bit of a habit. But I think the same could be said of either of the 6s models - if you're already spending a lot of time on it then you're unlikely to stop just because it's not the jumbo screen.

My iphone 3 lasted 5 years. I look after my phones :) Then upgraded to a 5 and then a 6 - the 5 gae up the ghost after 15 months. The 6 is doing OK (I definitely preferred that to the 6+) but is just not as robust.

My mac is 15 months old and has started behaving very strangely - looks like it needs some major repair work. My colleagues mac needed a new screen within the first 10 months. My laptops in the past have lasted 5-10 years (going from my to my son) - things are NOT built the way they used to be. Otherwise we would not need ot buy new ones ...

I wobbled between the 6s and the 6s plus for weeks. Couldn't decide at all. I was upgrading from a 5s and realised that the 6s was a lot bigger so the 6s plus I think would have been too big for me, especially as I like to hold it in one hand and browse lying in bed.

Always amused by those that seem to think Apple are operating some covert mission to make iPhone screens break. The only phone screen I ever broke was a Samsung. We've all got iPhones here, never a screen break had and to be honest if you're having an expensive phone you'd want to insure it anyway. As for battery life, never had a problem with that either. I've still got a working iPhone 3G that although it slow is very useable with a battery that lasts.

As for my Mac, the pro I'm working on now is about 6 years old. DH has gone through 3 PC Laptops in that time. My 10 year old white MacBook still works perfectly as well.

Having had every iPhone model except the 5s (because I love them, not because of problems), all of them are still floating around the family in use of some sort. My mother is merrily using my 3GS and she charges it about once a month! She's also using my iPad 1 which is giving sterling service.

The only iPhone screen I ever had to replace was my 4 which I dropped on the ground (no damage) and then accidentally stood on.

I charge my 6S plus every night but I use it constantly, it never leaves my hand. By night time it's down to about 45% and it's just habit to plug it in.

trixymalixy · 21/01/2016 12:10

I have the 6s and i find it just a bit too big for my hand, i have to use two hands whereas with my previous phone i could use one, so the 6s plus would have been waaay too big.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 21/01/2016 13:06

I have a 6 (personal) and a 5 (work). I never thought I'd get used to the size of the 6 after having the 4S, but actually, I prefer it now.

I have short thumbs and can't reach across the screen on either phone, but I much prefer using the keyboard on the 6.

I don't think I'd like bigger than this though. I also have an iPad, if I want a larger size I'd rather use that.

Artistic · 21/01/2016 13:09

I find 6 too big & my thumb hurts. Thinking of going back to 5s. Can't even consider 6 plus.
I find photos tricky too. Wish I'd never got this giant phone!

I would suggest you try both in store before you buy.

Atnelpoe · 21/01/2016 13:22

I went from a 5S to a 6S plus, and I love it! No problems with battery charge - I'm a heavy user, making lots of calls, sending emails and use it for reading books and I just need to plug it in when I go to bed.

Photos are great, and I must have big hands i do, they used to call me man-hands because I don't even have a problem with the size...I couldn't go back to a small screen now.

As for screen breakage, I am pretty rough with my phones, but I'm just buying panzer glass on repeat to protect the screen, and when that breaks I replace it, and so far my screen has been fine.

FireCrotch · 21/01/2016 13:36

I upgraded from a 5c to a 6s plus. I also have an iPad that I've barely used since upgrading. I use this for everything. Battery life is shit though. It needs a full charge everyday. I am on it constantly though which probably doesn't help.

Love my 6s plus - the Harry potter like moving photos are brilliant!

Yes Dinky. Very odd but funny.
