....to symptom spot in the 'two week wait'?

stumblymonkey · 19/01/2016 12:30

I know a lot of us get into symptom spotting before our period is due. I was wondering whether those who have been pregnant actually think they had signs before their period was late or if it can be confirmed as nonsense that you can feel any changes that early?

I knew I was pregnant the second time as I had the same dizziness I had the first. Both before my period was due. It could be a complete coincidence but I've never had those symptoms at any other time.

WorraLiberty · 19/01/2016 12:34

I have friends who claim they always knew the minute they were pregnant.

But they seem to have forgotten all the previous times they also thought they knew, but then their periods started.

The feelings can be very similar or sometimes identical to a period being on its way.

scaredofthecity · 19/01/2016 12:40

I thought I knew a few times before, but when I was, I did actually know for sure if that makes sense!
I couldn't drink coffee and I was a caffeine junky so I knew something was up! But I had all the twinges and spotting and sore boob ect before. I think when you want it you convince yourself of things that are barely even there.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 19/01/2016 12:43

I had symptoms. Every single time. Until the month I actually fell pregnant, that time there was nothing Grin. The only reason I tested was because we were trying, had the world's faintest line at that. However, I didn't get anything that resembled symptoms until about 9 weeks, so I may have been light on the hormones anyway.

Mumberjack · 19/01/2016 12:45

We tried to conceive for 2.5 years so each month I worked myself into a state symptom spotting. The times I've had a positive pregnancy test I haven't had random symptoms, just the absence of a period.

stairbears · 19/01/2016 12:48

It's pretty impossible to tell before your period is due, as the luteal phase can produce the same symptoms whether you're pregnant, or not. In fact, it's like your body assumes there's a pregnancy until it realised there isn't.

ElasticPants · 19/01/2016 12:50

Whilst ttc each month I was convinced I was pregnant as I was symptom spotting.

Each time I have been pregnant I've had no signs execpt a lack of period.

BeverlyGoldberg · 19/01/2016 12:52

I had nausea and tiredness from week 1. I tested at week 2 and got a negative then tested at week 3 and got a BFP but I had a very strong feeling it was going to be positive. Despite all that, and the fact we were TTC it didn't stop me going into shock when the line appeared!

Gunting · 19/01/2016 12:55

I had no symptoms hence finding out I was pregnant at ten weeks

OliviaDunham · 19/01/2016 13:01

I knew I was pregnant with DS2 the morning after! I have no idea how, and if someone had said this to me I wouldn't have believed them either. It didn't happen with any of my other pregnancies.

ValancyJane · 19/01/2016 13:15

I had some minor nagging implantation cramps in the TWW (ironically on a morning that involved teaching a lesson to Year 7 about early foetal development and implantation!) and started to wonder, because I'd not had that in any other month whilst TTC. No nausea or anything, that didn't kick in until about week 6, when it came with a vengeance! Got my 'might be a squinty line' BFP three days after the implantation cramps, and proper BFP four days after the cramps.

nancyclancy123 · 19/01/2016 13:26

I knew when I was pregnant for the third time because of my heightened sense of smell. We were walking round a national trust house and I could really smell curry, there may have been a takeaway nearby but no-one else could smell it.
I did a test that evening and it was negative, but it was positive the following day.

Brummiegirl15 · 19/01/2016 13:28

I knew because I was having bonkers mental trippy dreams. Did 3 tests. All negative.

Waited 2 days and did another and it was positive.

I've been pregnant 4 times and had vivid dreams every single time

boscros1 · 19/01/2016 13:34

I had full on MS 10days before AF was due and my sense of smell was crazy. I ovulate really early though. Was getting negative tests for a week until the day AF was due when I got a BFP. So definitely possible.

I had a thread on here recently as I thought I was going mad, loads of people said they had the same.

CakeFail · 19/01/2016 13:40

I was convinced I was not pregnant before my period was due as I felt exactly the same as I did before my period (mild menstrual cramp type pains, moody, hungry and a bit bloated). For that reason I would not symptom spot if I ever TTC again.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 19/01/2016 13:42

I knew with dd.

Can't remember how, but I knew.

AppleSetsSail · 19/01/2016 14:00

I had implantation bleeding in my most recent pregnancy.

Full-blown pregnancy symptoms don't really appear until 6 weeks, so not much other than this - apart from epically sore boobs.

AppleSetsSail · 19/01/2016 14:01

I also once knew I was pregnant because I walked onto a lift and was overwhelmed by the smell of it.

Katedotness1963 · 19/01/2016 14:05

No symptoms for me. I was 17 weeks along before I realised. 14 weeks the second time...

MamaLazarou · 19/01/2016 14:05

I'm totally with you on this, OP: I am doing the two week wait right now and just can't focus on much else!

My only symptom before POAS-ing with DS was very tender nipples.

Good luck! Flowers

stumblymonkey · 19/01/2016 14:14

I know....it's hard not to isn't Mama. Looks like a pretty mixed bag of answers.

I don't know if I can stop myself symptom spotting anyway....I'm bloated, a tiny bit queasy, ravenously hungry and small cramps. It's probably all psychosomatic though!!! Grin

Fingers crossed for you, stumblymonkey. When can you do a test? I will be doing mine on Saturday.

TeapotTam · 19/01/2016 14:48

I think we all do it! It took me 6 months to get pregnant and I was convinced I 'knew' a couple of times. By month 6 I gave up and I left it about a week late to test and I was! I was weirdly shocked Grin.

I genuinely think all my 'symptoms' were in my head. Thank God for pregnancy tests eh?

stumblymonkey · 19/01/2016 14:49

Mama...I could do an early test in about three days but really should do it in a week to be sure or might try and wait to see if AF comes first

stumblymonkey · 19/01/2016 14:49

Fx for you on Saturday mama
