To not understand the Bayliss and Harding hate

I've never used their products, just seeing an awful lot of hate for them on various threads. Does it bring you out in hives or something? Genuinely just wondering what the deal is? Grin

Almond, Molton Brown is overpriced HUGELY for what it is. Same ingredients as most shower gels wrapped up in luxury branding for 5x the price. Don't sweat it - if you like it, thats the main thing!

It's just cheap and nasty and has the temerity to try to look like it's nicer than it is.

Any MNer worth their salt will judge someone with it in their downstairs loo. It's almost as sinful as a loo brush.

I usually get dermatitis from cheap hand wash, but don't have any problem with B&H handwash. I quite like it for everyday use. The bottles are a bit more attractive than carex etc.

Almondpuding, it's a lovely gift from a teenager, ignore all the snobbery, it's irrelevant. You're not stupid Smile

Thank you. I think I am just being overly sentimental!

I've never bought any but I seem to have a drawer full of it and I've previously given loads of it to charity. I wouldn't dream of giving it to someone for Christmas, everyone knows it's rubbish.

The bottles come with a peal off foil lid, any toiletries that come come with a peal off foil lid are crap. And it isn't even that cheap, it's far cheaper to buy toiletries in the Boots 70% sale.

I don't know why anyone gives it as a gift, it's not a gift it's a 'what shall I do with this?' problem.

It looks nice and it's not overpriced - although like most sensitive will start overpriced then be reduced. And the products themselves are fine. But the snobbery is hilarious really.

The only reason I would judge anyone for what soap they had in their bathroom would be if they had none.

Aw, I'd be thrilled if my children bought me anything of their own volition.

Mine still expect their dad to sort that side of things.

Agree with this. I remember refilling all the lovely looking MB bottles at the naice gym I worked in using a huuuuuge plastic bottle with a pump on top. It was MB product alright, but it didn't look or smell half as good coming out of a congealed, nasty, big bottle I can tell you. Same stuff, fancy price tag.

I love B&H hand wash and I'm a complete toiletry princess.

I am also grateful for any present anyone buys me!

I've just received a B&H candle from mil. It smells horrible. I'd rather have received an Oxfam goat

I have a bottle of MB shower gel and after washing with it in the morning I can still smell it when I go to bed.

B&H I cant even smell it when it globulates out of the bottle. Awful texture. No scent.

I am a usual "own brand" or Sanex girl (my MB is a treat bottle which will last til my birthday, and the birthday one til christmas), so I dont think Im being snobby - I just have a real dislike of B&H as a product.

Molton Brown, is, IMO, a vastly superior product to Bayliss & Harding.

It's find when the snobs come out to play!

Most shower gels etc have the same basic ingredients - this article is about shampoo, but the same principle applies. www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1325389/Luxury-shampoo-Its-just-hogwash.html

Unless you buy products that are organic and using natural ingredients such as Neals Yard and Natural Elements, there is very little difference between the cheap and the expensive. All this 'it's crap' stuff is nonsense. It does the same job for a fraction of the price. Some people just prefer the other label and have bought into the marketing hype.

It's not a snob thing to say the candle honks. It's a truth thing.

Anyway - the pils couldn't come to visit us until today as they were buying all our presents in the house of fraser sale and they weren't delivered until yesterday Grin

I'd rather have sanex.

Also, been biting my tongue for a few threads now. Not all gifts are carefully & thoughtfully chosen. Some people (my mother) really do take the "that'll do" approach. I know the perpetrators well enugh to know this. So no. I am not grateful for anything I get. Sone things are shit and thoughtless.

How's it a cheap copy? It's a friggin soap product! Yes, the bottle design is similar to MB but so are about a dozen other brands.

It's such a snobby thing. MB is filled with shit and isn't very good, you pay for the label. BH is the same, apart from it's not designery shit, so you don't pay double for a name.

Mumsnet is great for a lot of things but it's snobby as shit when it comes to soap. Of all the things to turn your nose up at... Grin
