To not understand the Bayliss and Harding hate

I've never used their products, just seeing an awful lot of hate for them on various threads. Does it bring you out in hives or something? Genuinely just wondering what the deal is? Grin

I always buy the handwash, I have the rhubarb and vanilla at the moment and it's lovely. Wouldn't give it as a gift though, it's just household soap.

I thought mb was cheap and nasty too, it was always the stinking stuff we wouldn't bother nicking from hotel when I was a kid. I was totally Hmm when I first went into ne of their shops and saw the prices. ..

Is there an a acceptable limit to the value of a product we should be pouring down the drain then Confused or should we all just be scrubbing ourselves with free twigs from the garden?

The stinky candle isn't suddenly going to smell nice just because it's cheap

Do you all leave labelled hand wash containers in the bathroom? I have a thing about product placement and use dispensers. I could have anything in there ....:)

I got a set of their toiletries for Christmas. They seem okay - the shower gel is weirdly gelatinous, but the products don't seem THAT bad (I was expecting pathetic watery goo that either smelt of nothing or the devil's knicker drawer, given the snobbery it gets).

I certainly wouldn't judge someone for having the products in their bathroom and wonder why anybody would CARE what somebody else has chosen to wash with. I usually have dirt cheap antibacterial hand wash (not even Carex Shock, I'm toiletry scum)...

God that's awful usual.
Am I the only one who is "thingy" about my home being advertising space?

Apparently MB is quite "high street" these days and not considered that posh.
I'v said b&h makes me itch so I don't like it. Thing is, it's quite ubiquitous - Debenhams had a whole window display of it, tesco was offering it half price for some time. I think it's the ultimate "looks good costs nothing" present from any big store.
And I use cien handwash from lidl. But if someone wants to buy me a gift for £4 I'd prefer some cien to b&h

I got a b&h set and wash bag from my Secret Santa. Haven't used it yet but I'm thrilled with it.

I got a MB Bauble handwash for Christmas. I'm not too sure what to do with it - I don't have a dispenser, I just buy the 99pPalmolive Aquarium cos DD likes it and it encourages her to wash her hands.
I've hung it on the tree anyway.

I quite like the smell of it, clearly that says nothing good about me!!

I'm not a snob and love a bargain and a cheaper version of something, but I can't stand Bayliss and Harding for it's horrible watery, jelly consistency. I get a set every year from the inlaws- I use it in the handwash dispenser in the downstairs toilet.

I don't mind the products but the packaging seriously over-egged what little was in the box.

I don't mind the soap but the hand lotion is too watery to actually moisturise. Some of the scents aren't to my taste, but it lives in the bathroom and tends to last about a fortnight with three children washing their hands all the time.

I haven't ever received the other products, but most folk know I like to use soap so that's not a surprise.

I do prefer non-fruity stuff though, but most people have a preference don't they?

Oh Ffs, I bought dh some L'occitane shower gel. Costs a fucking fortune, smells gorgeous, is moisturising and lingers. It's in the bath, behind the shower curtain, if anyone sees t r y stupidly expensive shampoo that mil keeps buying me, it's because they're snooping.
Some people lie nice things or things that they perceive to be nice without showing off.

This thread has judge cowboys on both sides.

I don't get all the snobberyConfused. I got given 3 sets of toiletries this Christmas. L'occitaine, Molton Brown and B&H. They each reflect the affordability/income level of the giver. All are gratefully received and all will get used. I buy both L'occitaine and MB but not B&H. Nonetheless, why on earth would I look down down on the B&H? Someone worked hard to buy it for me. That's all that matters.

Ok I'll admit I don't love Bayliss and Harding. Didn't put B&H as that meant something else, brand wise,in my youth. Should it not be ok to purchase a gift and give it without all this vitriol? It's Christ mass not "I only want gifts that I approve of and can brag aboutmas"

I love the pink hand wash, I think it's rose or raspberry or something. It looks great in my bathroom and smells like Turkish delight!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 28/12/2015 22:35

It is a total cheap rip off of Molton Brown and made to look expensive. There are some people who are conned into thinking it's posh and a bargain!

That said, my severely autistic son bought me my first Christmas present this year, with the aid of workers, and it was a Bayliss and Harding foot care set with foot soak, foot cream and very fluffy slippers.

I love itGrin the foot cream smells rather nice too (jojoba, silk and almond oil)

On the other hand, as a gift to myself, I bought a beauty box deal. The contents included a bottle of Molton Brown Body wash that I really want to get rid of as I find the smell pretty awful!

I love their big pump dispenser shower gel for children, it smells lovely and isn't expensive per ml. I also like one of their rose hand wash ones.
I don't think much to M&B and wouldn't buy it. I use REN Otto Rose for my own shower products.

Bling my exact thoughts.

I have the MB hidden in the ensuite and the guest loo has some 99p cranberry stuff from home bargains currently there.

It's fine for the downstairs loo but I'm not in love with their scents. Too sickly and artificial for me. MB is lovely but over priced for what it is.

Now if we're talking luxury- Hermes is where it is at. Eye watering but smells like a whole day at the spa in a small bottle.

some of the fragrances are nice and the packaging is pleasant, but the stuff doesn't seem to lather up properly, and that's in a soft water area

TBH I prefer the imperial leather stuff that's on permanent offer at a quid a bottle

Me too!

Me too, but in reverse order. I think the richest giver didn't feel the need to try to impress. I probably won't use any of them. I don't use body lotion or stuff like that and just buy bog standard shower gel and hand wash from Tesco.
