To be annoyed Xmas plans scuppered as DS ill

We were due to travel up to my parents for a Big family Christmas at my parents tomorrow, with my sisters Family who live locally joining us on the. DS has temp and cold symptoms. DH thinks we should probably stay at home unless he makes miraculous recovery by tomorrow (unlikely seeing as these things usually last a week or so with him). I know this is the best move, since we are travelling by train (no car) and my parents will be noisy and from excitement - not Great for sick nearly 4 year old. I'm just a bit annoyed DH cannot relate to the fact I'm disappointed - I was so looking forward to spending Christmas with my family plus we've sent all our presents there so DS will have nothing to open on Christmas day if we stay at home. Aren't I allowed to be a bit disappointed. I'm also Quite annoyed with DH or taking the kids out all day on mon and tues when DS is up in the night unwell on Sun/mon night. He did seem much better by mon morning but yesterday he was lethargic & DH Still took him to me up with a friend while I was working. Grrr, so Xmas is gonna be a damp squib. Gutted

You'd cancel the trip for a cold? Confused sorry but unless he's immune compromised or something I see no reason to cancel!

Get him calpol...it's a cold!

I agree, dose up with calpol and take lots of tissues.

I would also give calpol and go. He can sit at your mums as easily as at home.

Can't you fill him with Calpol and go anyway, even for just a day or so?

Thanks guys!! That's what I think too, but didn't admit in the post. My DH thinks this is selfish and awful on my part. There's no convincing him

hmm not sure, if he has a temp and is ill. Not sure I'd want to sit on a train beside a sick child on Christmas Eve.

Why can't you go? Why does your DH decide to take him out with friend but can't have a family Xmas, for a cold??

We were only due to stay till the 28tj anyway, as its my nieces bday on the 27th. He thinks he won't have fun, i think it'll be worse for him to not have any of his presents. Any advice for what to say to my risk adverse hubby?

It sounds like he's making excuses because he doesn't want to go. Put your foot down OP.

I wouldn't change your plans for the symptoms you describe.

But your DH, is he secretly quite glad that you won't be going?

He has had convulsions b4 due to temp, but that is not reason for DH's hesitance, as we now know how to prevent (basically keep temp down with calpol)

I advise you to say "We're going. There's no discussion as DS isn't ill enough to cancel and you don't get to take DS out ill one day but then decide that Christmas is "too much""

Your DH isn't that risk averse or else he wouldn't have dragged a poorly child out earlier in the week.

Many kids have had convulsions due to temp by the time they get to 4 OP...it's horrible but not abnormal and certainly not enough to make one live in fear of a common cold!

School would expect him in with a cold, most workplaces would expect an employee to be in work with a cold too. Cancelling Christmas for a sniffle is dippy.

We have a similar situation except our DC is younger (11m) and pretty ill. It's just a cough and cold but she is suffering.

We only have a 20 minute walk so we'll go to my folks.

If I was due to leave today, travel miles and stay for 3-4 nights then I'm not sure i would BUT I also have a 3 year old and if it were him that had a cold we'd stick to original plans.

Your husband sounds like an arse though.

to be fair im going by the fact he also has a temp and has been up in night ill. doesnt sound like a sniffle

If you had been coming back from holiday you'd have to travel back on the train with a poorly child. In my experience they wake up a bit mid day wih the colds worse first thing and just before bed. I'd go, he'll prob sleep on the train and he'll be so excited that he'll prob forget about the cold.

My DD got a horrible virus on our first day at Disney, we just wrapped we up, hired a buggy an got on with it, she slept a lot but still enjoyed some I the rides etc.

Even if he did have a convulsion (which from what you have said isn't a massive risk) I presume that they have medical facilities where you are visiting?

I would just tell him you are going and taking the children and if he doesn't want to go then to stay at home and you can all have fun without him
