Apparently they were 'too hard'last year according to Dh, so thinking of transferring them to the pressure cooker in the next few days so they'll be just right on the 25th
Aibu to put next years in the slow cooker on the 1st of Jan so he can suck them through a straw come Xmas 2016? Grin

Hahahahahaha! I'd give him nothing but sprouts! Cheeky git!

wasonthelist · 04/12/2015 17:53

You're a bit late OP, I put mine on in November, as per Victoria Woods' Mum.

Grumpyoldblonde · 04/12/2015 17:55

I put mine on once the schools go back, just to be sure

You're a bit late putting them on OP, we're already into December. I know I'm in the minority (with the OP's DH) but I dislike al dente hard as bullets sprouts - I prefer mine soft enough to squash with a fork Smile.

SorryCantBeArsed · 04/12/2015 18:21

To be honest, your way too late for this Christmas so I'd just turn them down a tad and they'll be fine for next. Xmas Grin

Grilledaubergines · 04/12/2015 18:26

I live by Victoria Wood re sprouts too! Can't go wrong.

Creates a wonderful aroma through the house too!

Terramirabilis · 04/12/2015 18:31

YABU by serving sprouts. They are vile. And before anyone starts wittering about cooking them with bacon and whatever else: a pig with lipstick on is still a pig.

lizzydrippingsghost · 04/12/2015 18:44

well im putting the turkey in the oven tonight im sure it will be cooked just in time for chrismas

Palomb · 04/12/2015 18:47

My MIL got up at 4am on Boxing Day to put hers in for this year.

Fooshufflewickbannanapants · 04/12/2015 18:48

Sprouts are the only veg I love overcooked! I am also with VW on this. We have sprouts regularly with our Sunday dinner.

MrsUnderwood · 04/12/2015 18:50

Yeah, you've fucked 'em by putting them on too late. June at the latest, imho. Better luck next year.

seriously though I've already cooked mine and frozen them for Xmas day

ovaryhill · 04/12/2015 19:18

Can't believe I'm too late putting them on!

What about a couple of days in the microwave? They're never going to be soft enough!

ouryve · 04/12/2015 19:24

I just set the slow cooker going with the leftovers from Christmas day on boxing day. They're just about tender by the following Christmas.

ovaryhill · 04/12/2015 19:25

I was trying to remember how my mum did her veggies at Xmas but then I had a flashback to her chicken curry, sauce being made of Bisto, a teaspoon of curry powder, a chopped apple and a smattering of raisins!
Its giving me the dry heave thinking about it!

Hope all those that have sorted their sprouts already, allowed extra cooking time as thanks to the warmer autumn, sprouts are bigger this year!

maras2 · 04/12/2015 19:31

Mine have been in the Hadron Colider since June.

ovaryhill · 04/12/2015 19:47

Maras, you're just boasting now!

OP posts:
ovaryhill · 04/12/2015 19:51

Sprouts are bigger!? Have I made a mistake and bought cabbages?

magimedi · 04/12/2015 19:54

Joke time!!

What is the difference between sprouts & bogeys?

You can't get children to eat sprouts!

And if you want some hilarity (there's a good festive word) for the under tens' try this game:

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 04/12/2015 19:56

I'm throwing caution to the wind and not putting mine on until Christmas Day! Shock

I just really want to try something new. If they're too hard I'll blame Jamie Oliver, it's his recipe I'm following.

Jibberjabberjooo · 04/12/2015 19:58

I hate sprouts, my DM always used to make me eat them as they're good for me. So are other vegetables, ones that don't taste disgusting.

Jw35 · 04/12/2015 20:00

Yes definitely too late now we're into December! Blimey they will be Rock hard op!

GenevaMaybe · 04/12/2015 20:04

You could always go for a kind of triple-cooked approach:
Boil
Steam
Microwave
Repeat.

Topseyt · 04/12/2015 21:23

Coat them in chocolate, put them in a posh looking box and pretend you are giving him Ferrero Rocher with his dinner.

Won't matter then whether they are cooked or not.
