I bought a £20 giftcard online and I've received 2 of them but only paid once. Its not for a shop its for the cinema. I've been checking my bank account for the past few days to make sure I definitely was only charged once. Wwyd? Keep the second one or tell the cinema?

I'd like to think I'd tell them but, if I'm being completely honest, I'd keep them both.

Normally I'd say don't tell them. But in this case I think you should call up and enquire about the mistake... Not for moral reasons, but because they might not both be activated.

In all honesty, I'd keep it.

But be prepared for only one of them to have been activated/to work.

If they DO both work, use one to take a friend who needs a treat. [not v moral]

Another situation where I think MN world is very different to real world. I would keep them and use them - but I would be prepared for one of them not to work...

The scenarios are not the same. The other poster had already contacted the shop to tell them of the mistake and was asking if she should sell the second one or give it to charity.

I've been sent 2 shampoos by an eBay seller, 2 lip glosses from an online chemist, and 2 makeup sponges by Bobbi Brown website all in the last year.

Last Xmas Amazon sent me something I hadn't actually paid for. It had been in my basket at one stage, but I had removed it before paying. I wasted time on 3 phone calls trying to explain to the company who sent it. With no delivery note or proper reference they were unable to deal with the problem.

In the end I gave up and just donated the £25 item to a charity shop. Not really because of a particularly high moral stance, but I had already bought another similar gift (for a family member) and had no real use for the item.

What's the dilemma? It's not yours to keep, it's obviously a mistake as you haven't paid for it. Don't be dishonest, it will come back to you.

I'm zure dozens of mistakes happen every day, more so in the few weeks up to Christmas. It would be positively weird if some of them didn't happen to MNers. We had one today as well.

I would get them checked to see which one is activated. Be a bit embarrassing if you give a card as a gift and there is no money on it.
Personally,..I would contact the place I ordered it from and tell them. I wouldn't keep it.

OMG it is not stealing! OP has not gone into a shop and taken something from a shelf. It is their mistake I would just ring them up and and they will probably say keep it. Don't stress over it. Most peopke would keep it. I promise
