to not wake my sleeping baby..:

She's 11 days old today, ebf, feeding well and lots of wet/dirty nappies. She fed constantly from about 6pm-midnight last night and has been asleep since half 12. I think this is the longest she's been asleep! Can I leave her to wake on her own for her next feed? I know they say wake newborns up if it's been a while but I'm sure she would let me know if she was hungry!

I have a 6 month old, when she was a newborn, the hospital told us to wake her in the day for feeding but not to worry about night time. Maybe you have a sleep baby? :)

Ha thank you! If only she wasn't a pfb then I could've maybe enjoyed this long sleep rather than waking up every half an hour since half 3 to check she's still breathing

If she fed from 6-midnight. She is doing what is called cluster feeding. It is very normal for a ebb baby to cluster feed and then sleep for a good portion of the night after.

Just ensure that in 24hours she has 8-12. Feeds and for a ebb she will do just fine.

If she want long sleeps in the day wake he you won't manage the 8-12 if she does that in the day as week.

If your engorged and hence awake you could try dream feeding. This is lifting the sleeping baby and feeding her whilst asleep.

Leave her! Make the most (if you can) coz it might not happen again for a while. In fact, she's probably already up!

I EBF all three of mine on demand. They slept when they wanted to. It worked for us!

Thanks Enkop, unfortunately I don't think we've mastered our latch well enough to dream feed yet, still takes quite a few goes to make sure she's not nibbling my nipple (ouuuch).

Yeah I figured it might be a pay off for her constantly being on my boob all evening!

I'll let her wake up on her own.

Thanks magical! She's stirring now so I think my time is shortly up!

If she does this again I'll try and be a bit more chilled and take advantage!

As long as she has no signs of jaundice then leave her.

Babies with even mild jaundice sadly need to be woken to feed day and night (and most babies have it to some degree in the very early days) but your MW would have mentioned it.

No no jaundice, she had lost 2% at her 5 day check and has been eating like a trouper since then so I guess she just fancied a good sleep!

Dd2 does this. It's amazing. After dd1 I would have shook my head in disbelief that such a thing could happen. Dd2 is still doing it at 10 weeks. I know it's all going tits up at 4 months so I'm just going to enjoy it!

My EBF son was a fab sleeper in the early days - did 10-7 from 10 weeks. Then at about 5 months it all went to pot, but lets not talk about that.

So it is possible. Fingers crossed for you.

That is wonderful! Leave her at night. She is still young enough to be having her weight checked regularly and as long as she is gaining within the wide range of normal then let her go at night. Really is fantastic. My second was a bit like this in the early days on and off and since 6mts is a fabulous sleeper.

My HV told me I mustn't let DS go more than 6 hours and should wake him up. I tried once and he wouldn't wake enough to feed so I gave up on that after one night. He used to feed from 8-11. He was doing 7 hours by 4 weeks and has been a fab sleeper since. My baby group hated me!

Leave the baby and enjoy. My baby did this and I didn't appreciate it enough. It went completely tits up at 5 months.

My DS was a terrible sleeper, and I do wonder if it's partly to do with me waking him for feeds.

It's not actually for the babies sake, it's more for your supply in the early days. If you're worried maybe express a little?

She's been on my boob since she woke up pretty much, making up for lost time! How do people do this when they have other kids to look after?!

In reality if you have to do school run you plonk them in the pram/car and thry give you some peace for a bit. Thry cry while you dress the others and serve breakfast though.
Well-done mini op.

I'd leave her too, 6 hours is often recommended as a suitable length of time for the night. So there or thereabouts is fine.

For those of you whose babies slept for long periods at night..did they stay awake most of the day? She's not slept for more than about 15 minutes today!

I think I'm gonna need to work out the sling I've got so I can do stuff while I feed her!

Enjoy it! My dd slept like that for first few weeks and then it all changed, feeding every few hours through the night...

Have you had heel prick results yet? If yes and all ok, leave her. If not, I'd wake her. Mw told me one of the conditions they test for can prevent them from waking when hungry.

Mine was also a miracle baby who slept through from birth, but no he has never slept much during the day. Even now at 16 months he only has around an hour after lunch. But I have never minded this so much - you can deal with most things baby related if you're sleeping at night!

The midwife did say we had to wake him to feed. We followed the SMA instructions to the letter - 6 feeds a day for the first 2 months, so would wake him at 11 and 3. (I also managed to bf in between feeds for the first 8 weeks). And 5 feeds a day for the first 6 months so the 11 o'clock feed continued until he was 6 months!! I do look back and marvel at this insanity...

Funnily enough when we dropped the 11 he didn't seem to mind at all!
