The R word.

Someone said it on Facebook tonight because he didn't agree with someone's opinion. I told him it's a vile and offensive term and that he has no moral high ground using that word. His family members told me not to read his posts if I don't like it . Lovely bunch of people that they are.
Was I over reacting, or am I right to be so annoyed that someone who is apparently "well educated" would use this word as an insult?!

Yanbu, that word should have no place in modern society and is only used as an insult.

If someone did that on my facebook feed they wouldn't be there for a second longer.

I's block a person who thought that was an acceptable word.

He's definitely blocked. He is mutual friends with someone else who I know so he wasn't on my list, but luckily I won't have to see his name pop up again.

The one and only time this word is acceptable is when used in relation to medication. And most Pharma companies are now clued up enough to use Slow Release (SR) instead. This word has no place in modern society.

Yanbu. I agree that the linked letter is amazing and well worth sharing with people uneducated enough to not understand how wrong using this word in that context is.

When his father started piping up I said he must be so proud of his son, to which he said "extremely proud".
I said he must have pretty low standards then.
Then he said if having a well educated son is having low standards then hey I have low standards.

I nearly choked when he said "well educated".

I hate the word. I was talking to someone I knew once who said it about someone and I literally had to walk away.
