Have I been daft? A wwyd

Afishytale · 12/11/2015 13:50

I'm not sure I've been daft or I'm being daft.

I bought some fish from a door to door salesman earlier. I've seen fish vans around occasionally, not these people before.

I've googled the company, nothing comes up. Their website doesn't exist, google can't find their phone number, company or mobile. Nothing.

Have I been caught by people trying to make some quick money? I didn't pay by card (although they said I could), I paid by cheque and feel stupid as they said they'd stamp it. Should I cancel it?

I feel like I've been stupid (having an ill, non sleeping dc doesn't help me think straight at the minute).

Or am I over thinking it? Wwyd?

I think the key question is- have you eaten the fish?

Twitterqueen · 12/11/2015 13:54

You're over-thinking.

Cook the fish and eat it.

The salesman doesn't have to have a website and whether or not he pays his taxes or his phone bill is not really your concern.

SmokeAlarmsSaveLives · 12/11/2015 13:55

Are you happy with the fish and the price you paid?

Shakey15000 · 12/11/2015 13:55

All you've done is bought fish surely? Does it smell fishy? Grin

Ok, does it smell off? If you cancel the cheque you won't have paid for the goods.

Crispbutty · 12/11/2015 13:57

Did you "plaice" an order or have you actually got the fish?

Micah · 12/11/2015 13:57

We have one of these. I occasionally buy fish. It's always been fine.

I grew up fairly rurally though, so a bloke with a veg/fish/meat/library/bread van is normal, so it never occurred to me to question it (I'm in a city now).

Pipestheghost · 12/11/2015 13:57
Hmm
munkisocks · 12/11/2015 14:00

Is this dead therefore edible fish or is it in a clear bag swimming around like at the fair?Grin

Afishytale · 12/11/2015 14:00

I was just worried that they've got my bank details and might be dodgy. I never buy anything from the door, mainly because I can't be doing with people selling me stuff. But like I said, I've not had much sleep so I'm not necessarily thinking straight.

Yes it smells fishy, it's fish.

It wasn't a van. It was a basket!

It's not against the law if you don't have a website.

Afishytale · 12/11/2015 14:02

It's swimming around, the kids like it but I've told them it's for their tea so not to get too attached.

OP posts:
Afishytale · 12/11/2015 14:02

No, but why would their website be on their card if it doesn't exist?

Pipestheghost - your username is terrifying! Takes me back to being terrified on that fateful halloween night!

On topic though, we have a fish guy once or twice a year - it's usually nice stuff, decent price and he takes cash or a cheque. I wouldn't worry too much.

catfordbetty · 12/11/2015 14:02

I'm not sure what you are worried about. Do you think you have bought stolen fish? If so, it might be a good idea to eat the evidence.

catfordbetty · 12/11/2015 14:05

The fish is alive? You are required to kill it yourself?!

Afishytale · 12/11/2015 14:12

You mean I shouldn't have put it in the freezer? Grin

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 12/11/2015 14:13

Yes it smells fishy, it's fish.

Live fish do not smell fishy.

catfordbetty · 12/11/2015 14:15

Are we having our legs pulled? I don't mind. I like funny stories.

TwoSmellyDogs · 12/11/2015 14:16

Another silly made up story. What IS the matter with MN lately?

DadOnIce · 12/11/2015 14:16

Have you haddock kind of feeling something's up?

Pipestheghost · 12/11/2015 14:18

John Dory??

Pipestheghost · 12/11/2015 14:18

Or jackanory?? Grin

Afishytale · 12/11/2015 14:18

I love that you think it's made up!

It really isn't, I've genuinely name changed (clearly because I'm worried about looking like an idiot).

OP posts:
ratspeaker · 12/11/2015 14:19

What type of fish is it?
What are you keeping it in if it's still alive?

I've never heard of anyone selling lve fish door to door.
There are fish vans come around but a few years back there was a spate of door to door sellers who basically scammed people into buying large quantities of unidentified fish, the people believed they'd get salmon, cod etc but got poor quality fish instead.

catfordbetty · 12/11/2015 14:20

But did you really put an alive fish in your freezer?
