To think that people who fall for this 36 free books thing are daft

36 books for buying one book. Why are women I otherwise like and think are intelligent falling for this? What's wrong with them? It's fricking pyramid buying and it's yer mates yer ripping off!

"I am participating in a book exchange for my children So, I need 6 mums, mums to be, grandmas, or anyone interested in the book exchange that will actually participate and follow through. Here is how we play: You must purchase and mail ONE book to a child and then your child receives up to 36 books in return (if all goes well and everyone follows through). You can do this in 10 minutes or less if you order the book through Amazon. Just think of how much fun checking the mail will be for your child with lots of books coming! Let me know if you are interested, and I'll pm you the instructions...it's super simple! First 6 to commit will be in."

Aaaah the Forever Living video I posted on has abruptly disabled the comments section after I asked why recruit competition if you earn from sales.....They're coming for me aren't they ( closes curtains )

Jux · 04/11/2015 09:59

Why do I never see any of these things on FB? Not one; I think that means I'm doing fb wrong. What should I do to see some of these? I don't believe that my fb friends alone are immune to them.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 04/11/2015 10:44

I still don't entirely get it Blush

So who does the person at the top send a book to?

BertieBotts · 04/11/2015 10:53

I think these chain letter a are less harmful than actual pyramid schemes. They are a bit of fun and of course you won't really get 36 back, but the act of sending a book to a person you don't know is pretty fun in itself. The figures showing it is mathematically impossible do work for pyramid selling, but don't for these because with this kind of game people drop out, which cuts numbers down, and also people can take part more than once.

I agree nobody should feel pressured or see it as anything other than a gamble and a bit of fun but I don't think they are harmful. Especially low value ones like books, chocolate, postcards. Why not?

winchester1 · 04/11/2015 12:58

Still not getting why I would send some random kid a book so that 36 people I don't know may send me a book, that I probably don't want. Confused

And as all the books need to be brought it must be obvious that some people buy books but don't get any back. How is that fair?

OverScentedFanjo · 04/11/2015 13:12

I think the "winner" here is Amazon who are named in the info!

FeelingSmurfy · 04/11/2015 13:17

I have seen this, she managed to get 1 person and over a week later is still trying to get 5 more, yet still seems to think that they will each get 6 people no problem and she will get the 36 books!

This same person has also done FL and JP (and a third i cant remember) in the past though so I can't say I'm surprised! Don't think she will ever learn

FeelingSmurfy · 04/11/2015 13:24

Thatsnotmyrabbit nobody, they get books for nothing. Top of the pyramid always wins and bottom always loses

FeelingSmurfy · 04/11/2015 13:25

Just noticed all of the Amazon comments, the one I have seen doesn't mention Amazon, it mentions eBay or book depository (and says you can send to all over the world using those)

buymeabook · 04/11/2015 13:38

BertieBotts, less harmful in that there is less at risk yes. But when you say it works because people drop out....isn't that people giving a book but getting nothing back? I don't call that working somehow.

And if anything I find it more annoying that people are making out that it's just a bit of fun. It is not being presented at all honestly.

LemonBreeland · 04/11/2015 13:42

I read about this in here the other day then it popped up on my FB last night, from a friend who I thought was intelligent. I can't believe she has been sucked.

I don't even see the point of it. My kids already have loads of books, I'm not about to go buying one for some kid and hassling my friends to do the same.

NerrSnerr · 04/11/2015 13:53

I have seen a few that have said 'My Hannah has just got into reading so deciding to do this book share'. Why not go to the library? Pick up some cheap books from the charity shop?

mandi73 · 04/11/2015 14:00

Well I did it, so a little boy has gotten a book from me and DD was thrilled yesterday morning when the postman had a parcel just for her, loved her book, we read it last night, if she gets anymore nice if not it's still ok. It's a book swap DD thrilled, didn't cost me a fortune and the world is still turning.

trixymalixy · 04/11/2015 14:02

So how are you going to feel if 36 books turn up mandi? Delighted or a bit uncomfortable at receiving potentially PS180 worth of books while only buying one?

trixymalixy · 04/11/2015 14:03

*PS180

trixymalixy · 04/11/2015 14:03

FGS why is the pound sign appearing as PS!!

Jux · 04/11/2015 14:06

Thatsnotmyrabbit, I think the person at the top and the first 6 friends don't send a book to anyone. It's the people on the layer of 36 who each send a book to the top person, and then it's started properly and it goes from there.

I suspect Amazon started it.

Jux · 04/11/2015 14:08

PS
Just testing the pound sign.

EU
And the euro!

Fully Europeaned I am Grin

Jux · 04/11/2015 14:09

Ooh, interesting.

buymeabook · 04/11/2015 14:29

Well done mandi, you're near enough the top to get something.

Bimblywibble · 04/11/2015 14:36

This is still doing the rounds! I had it 8 years ago when DD was a baby.

Glad it's worked out for you OP.

mandi73 · 04/11/2015 14:38

Everybody only buys one book
I very much doubt thirty-six will show up, maybe four or five if she's lucky.
Everybody pays out for one book, some at the top may get the thirty-six, I'm nowhere near the top but doesn't bother me, I already got back what i put in, one book.

mandi73 · 04/11/2015 14:38

Oh and I didn't buy off Amazon, just bought in local book stop and posted.

AnnaMarlowe · 04/11/2015 14:42

But Mandi lots of people will not get any books.

NerrSnerr · 04/11/2015 14:53

The problem with this scheme is some people who don't have much money will buy into it, send a book, get their hopes up as it will really make Christmas easier this year to have 30 books to give their child and then get nothing. They could have spent the original money on their child.
