Sorry - but it made you look!

I've got a virus on my new laptop. I downloaded a fake google chrome clever and its changing the homepage and making popups come up constantly.

How can I get rid of it? Which are the safe malware removers?

Thank you very much!

windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/security-essentials-download
free.avg.com/gb-en/homepage

Those two help and then use the 'Add/remove software' tools in the control panel.

DH is clueless, but luckily I'm not. Download Malwarebytes and it should clear it up.

Ha ha that def made me look, I thought 'oh dear that won't end well'!
I know nothing about computers but might well steal your tactics next time I post Grin

ImperialBlether · 15/10/2015 10:40

Me too! I thought I'd have to go out and buy popcorn!

YouBastardSockBalls · 15/10/2015 10:42

Sorry! Grin

Thanks for the links huns!

OP posts:
Duckdeamon · 15/10/2015 10:43

Wtf

drspouse · 15/10/2015 10:44

Question: is she going to get more flaming for making it look like she thinks wives know nothing about computers OR is she going to get more flaming for calling MNers "huns"?

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2015 10:45

Oh I read the title and thought it was going to be a way of garnering attention for something completely unrelated which I might have a chance of helping with.

Disappointingly, I know sweet chuff all about computers. And neither does DH.

Harrumph.

Best of luck with it all hun. You know your Windows. Trust your instincts.

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2015 10:46

Should be 'And so does DH'.

I know nothing at all. Grammar, syntax, computers.

Mermaidhair · 15/10/2015 10:47

I was excited to read the comments, well played! Sorry I can't help

Does anyone remember that thread where the young laddie came on to help all us old stupid women with our computer problems? Bless him I felt sorry for him after he had his arse handed to him over page upon page.

Some of my favourite quotes fr mumsnet came from there. He was called Blacklight or something? Anyone remember?

I'd restore settings.

squoosh · 15/10/2015 11:02

YouBastard I was thinking of that thread this very morn, sniggering to myself.

'Back when my job involved working on these machines all day, I just bashed them with my tits and hoped for the best' was my personal fave.

YouBastardSockBalls · 15/10/2015 11:20

Mine too! It actually makes me laugh out loud lol when I think of it.

And the 'I don't even know what this is, I was just dusting one day and all these lights and sounds came on' one.

I remember! I was quoted in HuffPo!

Oh no, wait. I wasn't. That was when MNers were going to be recruited to MI5.

pictish · 15/10/2015 11:25

Squoosh i remember that comment as well. I did cackle. Grin

Well played OP. I know feck all about computers but I was still coming in here to see the fall out.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 15/10/2015 11:26

I had to take mine to the shop and pay £50 for it to be cleaned up when I did that. Most annoying!

Scremersford · 15/10/2015 11:26

Just do a search on computer files to see which is the most recently installed, see if it matches, and delete it. Or buy a virus checker programme. Not hard to do.

Why you need someone's "hubby" is a mystery. You do know there are women out there with actual jobs as computer programmers and systems analysts and everything?

IKnowRight · 15/10/2015 11:29

I'm soooo disappointed. I'd made a cup of tea and opened a packet of biscuits speshully so I could sit and read the fallout.

Is the thread with the helpful young man still about? Can anyone link? Am bored stiff in the office and need some entertainment.
