Go for it Smile
Dd and several friends have used it to good affect. From their experiences I don't think the breakthrough bleeding is like a full period.

FrancesNiadova · 13/10/2015 06:28

I used to take Norethisterone, (before BC) & it is a hormonal pill. It did work & stopped some of my horrendous bleeding. I take tranexamic acid now!
I don't think that it's unreasonable to want a break from very heavy periods whilst you're on holiday or at any other time I hope you have a great holiday! Wine

Alfiedoggy · 13/10/2015 06:51

Did you get any bleeding at all or did it stop it totally ?? Hmm

Yanbu. But I would say when I took it I still got the bloating and aches and it lasted longer. Now I prefer to have the heavy the period.

It's really a personal decision. But don't see why you can't give it a go.

ThreeRuddyTubs · 13/10/2015 06:59

I've taken it for a holiday and had no ill effects whatsoever

Senpai · 13/10/2015 07:03

If you haven't had your period yet, try it out this month to make sure it works smoothly so you're not in for nasty surprise side effects during the holidays.

Alfiedoggy · 13/10/2015 07:03

So it actually works?? No bleeding at all WinkShock

My dd took it so she didn't have her period whilst on a sailing holiday, and it was fine, no bleeding at all, she got her period three days after she stopped taking it. She also didn't have her usual headaches and tearyness that she gets before, she just had the bleeding, she asked if she could take it more often! (Obv I said no)!

Ktay · 13/10/2015 07:13

YANBU but I had horrendous mood swings when I took it on honeymoon so testing it out beforehand would be a good idea if you have time (or if you do have time, could you take it to delay an earlier period and so shift your cycle to avoid your holiday?)

Leelu6 · 13/10/2015 07:15

I have taken it to delay my period by 3 or 4 days.

It definitely delays your period (no bleeding). When you stop taking the pills, your period starts 3 days later.

I'm very cautious about using it and don't make a habit of it. I worry about side effects but haven't experienced any myself.

ThreeRuddyTubs · 13/10/2015 07:21

Definitely no bleeding. If you misjudge taking it and your period starts you can start taking it anyway and it will stop it (according to my Dr. I did try it and it did work but it seemed to be a light period anyway)

Crosbybeach · 13/10/2015 07:29

Turned me into a hormonal horror. But lots of other people have good stories. If you have v heavy periods there is stuff that can be done, apologies if you've been down that route and I know that wasn't your question.

TTTatty · 13/10/2015 07:33

I have taken it. And will be again as going to CP in a couple of weeks and want to swim without worry.
The one thing I would say is to make sure you spread tabs out evenly - they are three a day and I take as close to 8am, 4pm and 12am as possible and I don't get break through bleeding.

RokensWife · 13/10/2015 07:34

I just started taking it last night - took it when I was a teen and it worked perfectly

Pushoutthejive · 13/10/2015 07:39

Definitely no bleeding when I took it while on holiday. Doctor did warn me about side-effects, mainly bloating and insomnia, which I laughed off as I get both with periods anyway. But I found the insomnia while taking norethisterone to be horrendous - far worse than just jet lag. Would consider taking it again though, despite that.

EponasWildDaughter · 13/10/2015 07:41

No breakthrough bleeding here.

You do still get the bloating, the rage, and the skin breakouts though. Grrrr.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 07:42

It is absolutely fabulous. I take it whenever I am due a period on holiday.

I don't get any of the moody side effects.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 07:45

I have heavy periods and I've taken Noristherone several times. Absolutely no bleeding at all.

On normal months, I take ibuprofen for a day or so before and the first 2-3 days of my period and this takes the edge off the bleeding.

roofio87 · 13/10/2015 07:46

I took it when I got married last year. No Bleeding at all and I didn't get any side affects. Only downside, I got my period about 3 days after I stopped and it was very heavy!

RainbowCake · 13/10/2015 07:58

I've taken it on my last 3 holidays (really need to plan better ) and it is great, no break through bleeding at all and my periods are horrendous. I did find my period after was even heavier than normal but worth it IMO.
Don't let then try to fob you off with the one a day pale imitation, it gave me a v v light period but I was constantly on edge I would come on as normal at some point inconvenient.

Blueandwhitelover · 13/10/2015 08:04

Take it! I'm picking up my prescription for it tomorrow ready for my Half Term holiday. I've taken it before twice and it has prevented the period until I got home.

SoupDragon · 13/10/2015 08:07

Last year my period was due right at the start of a fortnight away so I had quite a large supply of Noristherone prescribed. My period arrived early and I didn't need any of it which means, since then, I have been able to shove my period away for a few days if it has been due at an inconvenient time when ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered.

Catonthematwiththehat · 13/10/2015 09:02

I have taken it twice. The second time was on my honeymoon (I'm sure ive taken it another time but I can't for the life of my remember when/why).

My period stopped and I had no side effects. If I wasnt TTC then I would consider it again. Just bear in mind that it can take a while for your body to return to normal so if you are thinking of TTC then maybe don't do it.

Alfiedoggy · 13/10/2015 09:23

Has anyone had any spotting after sex whilst using it ??? Was told a possible side effect ?? Xxxxxx

hairypaws · 13/10/2015 09:45

If you have regular periods I would use it a month or two before the holiday to bump your periods forward a couple of weeks. I always had bad pmt with it and didn't want to suffer from that either on holiday.
