Carrot cake follows as a close second obviously!

YANB at all U - lemon drizzle all the way! I'm partial to a coffee and walnut cake but wouldn't always be in the mood for one. Lemon drizzle on the other hand? Anytime anywhere!!!

HelenaJustina · 03/10/2015 09:26

I'd reverse your top two...
Victoria sandwich I always find slightly disappointing - too insubstantial
And chocolate cake is so variable, a good one is amazing but a bad one is worse than coffee and walnut...

Pseudo341 · 03/10/2015 09:29

Only if it was made by my MIL. No one's lemon drizzle cake compares to hers.

MrsMummyPig · 03/10/2015 09:30

Coffee and walnut but it has to be homemade or from a proper bakery or farm shop. The supermarket ones are sickly and synthetic tasting.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 03/10/2015 09:30

I give you...
A national trust cream tea. Nothing beats those fresh scones.
Having said that, I do quite like lemon drizzle, as long as its a good one.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 03/10/2015 09:31

yy to lemon drizzle cake followed by carrot cake and in 3rd place is cheesecake but never chocolate cheesecake

Palomb · 03/10/2015 09:34

Lemon drizzle is top of the pile. I've never tried a coffee and walnut cake Shock does anyone have a good recipe?

Bloodybridget · 03/10/2015 09:34

The lemon drizzle I made last week was certainly one of my best cakes ever (Mary Berry's traybake recipe). But I have no excuse for making another one (sad face).

Chillyegg · 03/10/2015 09:36

I strongly agree that a good chocolate cake is excellent and bad one however is worse than battenburg!

YABU. Victoria sponge is clearly the best. You can all take your carrot and walnut and whatnot and shove it. Although I've noticed lemon drizzle is particularly popular in my office right now. Is this some sort of pro-lemon conspiracy? Hmm

HelenaJustina · 03/10/2015 09:39

Battenberg! That's not cake, it's some kind of sick joke...

Sallystyle · 03/10/2015 09:42

Passion cake with cream cheese icing. As long as you take out the nuts!

But really, the best 'dessert' of all time is this:

Coffee and Walnut
Carrot Cake
Lemon Drizzle

Chocolate cake is an abomination.

I have a soft spot for anything almondy but we are venturing into tart territory then

Fugghetaboutit · 03/10/2015 09:45

Eurgh hate any lemon or orange cake. I don't want fruit in my cake. I want CHOCOLATE

BestIsWest · 03/10/2015 09:46

Isn't passion cake just another name for carrot cake?

Palomb · 03/10/2015 09:47

Those cinnamon rolls look amazing.

Oysterbabe · 03/10/2015 09:48

Battenburg is my favourite!

Bloodybridget · 03/10/2015 09:49

Palomb - Nigel Slater has a good coffee and walnut cake recipe, sorry I don't know how to link from my tablet.

MrsHathaway · 03/10/2015 09:49

LDC and a good squidgy ginger cake are top of my list.

Chocolate cake is so often disappointing - dry cake with claggy icing - that I don't choose it any more unless SIL or I have made it. I make mine with mocha buttercream to cut the sweetness.

Good fruit cake is lush too - a tea loaf or sultana tray bake. But I don't like peel or nuts so I don't choose it when out.

Bought scones are usually a travesty.

eosmum · 03/10/2015 09:51

What's is the best lemon drizzle recipe? I do the Rachel Allen carrot cake and have won prizes:)

Sallystyle · 03/10/2015 09:58

Passion cake has bananas in it and coconut.

MrsHathaway · 03/10/2015 10:00

Start with a standard sponge recipe (weigh the eggs in their shells, same weight s.r. flour, caster sugar and butter; cream butter and sugar; add beaten eggs and a bit of flour; add rest of the flour; bake at 170 until a skewer comes out clean).

For the drizzle, warm lemon juice and saturate it with sugar. Pour over the cake while still warm. As it cools it recrystallises.

::checks fridge for eggs::

Jeffreythegiraffe · 03/10/2015 10:04

I make an amazing banana cake. It's the easiest and tasty thing to make.

TheLambShankRedemption · 03/10/2015 10:04

Coffee and walnut
Banana cake
Lemon drizzle
