About the egg advert? (lighthearted)

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 07:21

An advert for eggs is coming up at the top of my mn page. It says "eggs, a great weaning food".

There is a picture of a baby being fed eggs with a spoon, held by unseen adult. WITH A SPOON, PEOPLE! (Unintentional Alan Rickman in Robin Hood moment)

This parent is not baby led weaning! He/ she has not even got the baby to cook and prepare the eggs him/herself .... We should stage a massive blw-in at their headquarters.

(Disclaimer- I did blw DS, because he basically believes in baby led life, and won't have it any other way. DD preferred the food FAST. Sorry for the capitals)

I thought eggs weren't advised until a baby was 1 because of risk of allergy?

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 07:26

You may be right Chris. That baby could be 1 I guess.

But by 1 surely he should be handling entire silver service arrangement himself? Grin

It's a conspiracy I tell you! :o

firefly78 · 01/10/2015 07:29

it says a great weaning food nothing about baby led weaning?

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 01/10/2015 07:30

Actually looking at NHS leaflets they say they're ok from 6 months. Must just be because we have experience of babies going into anaphylaxis at 6 months due to an egg allergy.

That's probably not the advert the egg people want :o

It's ok egg people! We love eggs and eat lots of them! Once ds is definitely not going to be killed by them he will join us in our egg-overeating. But not just yet.

anklebitersmum · 01/10/2015 07:35

[sulking] as I'm getting specsavers telling me contacts are cheaper

blw is what we used to call feeding themselves finger foods, no? Grin

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 07:36

firefly it's a joke about mn, and the near religious fervour for blw in some quartets (both here and in rl).

Which is why I added that I blw-ed, although was happy to try either method.

If you feel that you have to add the intensely irritating term 'lighthearted' to your post, why don't you just post in chat and save us more unnecessary AIBUs?

AuntieStella · 01/10/2015 07:39

Baby led weaning - pah!

Hadn't been "invented" as a term when mine were little.

It was called 'giving your baby finger foods from the off'. Or 'leaving DC to get on with it, whether by fingers of spoon'

One book even said the most useful weaning tool you could have was a bald baby, as a well thatched one was harder to clean afterwards, but worth it as they learned so much faster.

Whether you use an implement to eat egg depends entirely on how it's cooked. Toddler, fingers and scrambled? I don't think so!

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 07:40

Yes is finger foods.

AuntieStella · 01/10/2015 07:40

(And agree, btw, with pp that "lighthearted" is an abomination. And that this might have been better in the relevant topic or in chat)

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 07:48

auntiestella your point is pretty much the point I am making!

Wrong side of bed cuttedup?

Can we give it a rest with the thread police please? Thread police are an abomination IMO.

Basically I saw the advert and thought of you (all).

Also DS has sent me on here to pubmicise his new book "baby led life". It has handy hints such as allowing you baby to climb any furniture he/she likes and never to out him in the car seat.

It was scribbled with his sister's felt pens in first draft, with the lids subsequently left off.

I did BLW with one of mine. I would never recommend it. My son is the fussiest child I have ever met and I firmly believe it is because he didn't get a variety of flavours as a weaning nipper cos I "let him choose what went in his mouth". He never ate a vegetable as he never opted to put it in his mouth!

My other children had purées and got used to vegetable tastes by mixing them with other stuff.

Given my time again I would never have done BLW!

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 08:07

I hate the lighthearted disclaimer too, I hate that you have to put it in Incase someone is offended by it, and I hate that any kind of fun / jokey / lighthearted thread gets the fun sucked out of it.
I used the term blw, my mum used the term finger food, she says Kentucky Fried chicken - I just say KFC. It all means the same thing, no one thinks they invented anything. There is no need for such cuntery.

anklebitersmum · 01/10/2015 08:23

Haydee the biters wrote that book too and ate the crayons afterwards.
The chapter 'toddler eats anything' feature a large slug, a soft boiled egg and raw cake mix

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 08:35

Grin to biters

It is the new childcare revolution (or perhaps not new at all!).

My advert is for Ryanair, probably because I have been looking at flights. Sadly for them I have just booked with Monarch. Maybe next time Mr O'leary.

As I have no DCs I have no idea how to feed or serve an egg to a baby, or for that matter whether or not you can feed eggs to babies, I don't see why not and would have thought that a spoon was reasonable, but what do I know?

PaulAnkaTheDog · 01/10/2015 11:21

Surely baby led weaning is just a daft way of saying finger food? Pretentious way to make it sound like more than it is? Seriously, why not just say finger food?

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 17:08

Why does it matter either way though Paul ? As I said up thread people call things by different names, it's no big deal. I sort of called it blw, although I very rarely actually said that, mostly I just fed the babies.

It's not like I said "ok baby, it's time for me to baby led wean you now, that's it in to the fucking highchair" nor would I say "time for your finger food "
I just don't get the problem, no one in rl gives a shit about what you call the way you feed your baby. Confused

I just don't understand why lighthearted fun threads get picked apart constantly, it seems worse now than it was before. I know AIBU has always been full of cantankerous cunts but this is daft.
Can't we just all be a bit silly on a thread without it getting snarky? For the love of God will no one think of the silliness.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 01/10/2015 19:53

I didn't say it mattered. Just seems like pretentious guff to me. Trying to make something sound fancier than it is. Kind of like when the bin man is referred to as a waste disposal officer, or whatever.

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 20:05

I do get that, although I can't say I ever gave it that much thought. I think there is a book about it that spurred the change in name. A new generation had babies and the name of it changed - for some people. Like I said it's only on here that people seem to care either way.
I suppose on here I would find blw easier to understand than ff which could get confused with formula feeding.

I just don't understand why people have to drag what is obviously a lighthearted thread ( note the lighthearted pointer in the op) down. Op said it was a gentle poke at the devout baby led weiners Wink.

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 01/10/2015 20:39

Thanks Beryl! I was trying to be funny on my way to awful day at work....

I am all in favour of just getting on with feeding babies and not giving it a label or being over attached to any theory/system. This was my point really.

OP posts:
AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 21:04

I have seen thread after thread go this way Haydee, you're posting in the wrong section or your spag isn't good enough, your jokey thread isn't funny, or you put lighthearted in the op. There are more, I have just forgotten them.
Has it always been this bad ?
Hope your day at work wasn't too awful.

ZylaB · 01/10/2015 21:08

I've got an advert for eggs saying "Eggs, a great weaning food." But there's no spoon in it, the baby is holding strips of what looks like omelette and there's also some bits of broccoli on their tray too. Apart from the fact the baby's face and bib are suspiciously clean, are there 2 egg adverts then?

It must know I'm conforming to the mn way don't mention that I've been feeding DD purees as well as finger foods, I'll be ostracised!

AwfulBeryl · 01/10/2015 21:12

I reckon they saw this thread.
