to get my nose pierced

NotTodaySatan · 24/09/2015 13:02

at 35?

I really want a fine silver ring that sits almost flush to my nose. I bought a fake one from Etsy and have been wearing it for over a week and really love how it looks.

My mother will hate it.

For reference I work in a creative industry and have unnaturally coloured hair.

I have the number for the best reviewed piercing place in my city and am thinking about getting it done tomorrow or Saturday. Should I??

Do it. I did it at 31, work in a creative industry and have silly coloured hair too.

It makes your eye on that side water really badly while you're having it done. It's like fake crying.

NewbieCrazyCatLady · 24/09/2015 13:07

I'm sorry OP but I really don't like it on anyone of any age. I think it's very 1990s.

Moln · 24/09/2015 13:09

If you want to. Why not!!!

Tootsiepops · 24/09/2015 13:09

I got mine done last year at 35. I have a very sensible job...

It really hurt - definite eye watering here too.

I wondered after the fact whether or not there's an element of cultural appropriation in having your nose pierced as a white European. The interwebs offer conflicting opinions (shocking, I know) and I'm still none the wiser.

NotTodaySatan · 24/09/2015 13:20

Ooh I think I'm gonna do it!

Showy and Tootsie how long was it before you could change the stud? It is a stud you have to have initially isn't it?

Do it!

I got mine done two years ago. I didn't find it painful at all, and they recommend you change the stud after 12 weeks. I think they advise a stud at first because it's less likely to get caught/irritated during the healing.

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2015 13:24

Yes a stud at first and not a little one. It has to be slightly larger than my preferred titchy stud or ring, just until you heal.

Probably a month before I changed it for a ring.

Bear in mind too that if you intend to wear a ring, they'll pierce slightly lower down than if you're only ever intending to wear a stud. My friend wears only a stud and her piercing is higher. I don't like mine with a stud as much as I should, just because of this.

StoneFoxMama · 24/09/2015 13:28

Do it, I got mine done at 33. I had it done with a neometal trinity stud and then changed after 6 weeks to a super fine tiny ring. I love it so much.

I really didn't want a stud but the trinity was a tiny 3 gem shape which was so much nicer than most piercing jewellery, I've got photo's if you want to see?

exWifebeginsat40 · 24/09/2015 13:35

i first had my nose pierced at 21. at 42 i now have 3 rings in my nose as well as a septum piercing. i am also covered in tattoos. i don't work, but in my last job i travelled a lot to give training and presentations across Europe - i had dreadlocks at the time.

so yeah, get your nose pierced. it's ace.

Tootsiepops · 24/09/2015 13:51

My piercer recommended waiting 12 weeks to change the stud, and to go back and see him when I did want to change it and he'd do it for me, checking first that everything had healed up properly.

I waited 8 weeks and then did it myself. Impatient, much. I wear a very small stud, and yes - the piercing site will be slightly different depending on whether or not you want to wear studs, or rings, or both (I only wear studs, so mine sits a bit further back on my nostril).

It really does sting though I called my piercer a lying fucker after he'd done mine! Good luck Grin

VicWillia · 24/09/2015 13:54

I am 32 and just got mine done. I love it. It bloody hurt though Jesus Christ, be prepared for that! Do it!

Florene · 24/09/2015 13:57

I'm sure I'm missing the point but why not just keep wearing the fake? Surely that's best of both worlds for days when you fancy not wearing it?

TheoriginalLEM · 24/09/2015 14:05

Do it, i think they look really nice. I just don't have the "right" face for it.

But yeah, i suppose you could just continue with the fake? actually florene may have a point.

JacquesHammer · 24/09/2015 14:24

I'm 36. Still have mine done since I had it at 21.

I love it. Never had any negative comments

Cocolepew · 24/09/2015 14:31

It really hurts and don't go shopping afterwards. I went to tax my car with mascara all down my face and blood trickling out of my nostril Grin

FuckYouBitchImWellClassy · 24/09/2015 14:41

Wherever you are going to get it done make sure they use a needle and not a gun.

wonderpants · 24/09/2015 14:42

Have you got a link for the Etsy fake one? Is it comfortable to wear?
I really want to get mine pierced but I suspect I'm not as cool as I think I am!

FuckYouBitchImWellClassy · 24/09/2015 14:43

That almost sounds like a song lyric.

LadyNym · 24/09/2015 14:46

Go for it! I'm normally not that keen on nose piercings (though, I do think they suit some people) but I don't have to get one and I'm sure lots of people don't like my tattoo or green hair.

Itsbloodyraining · 24/09/2015 14:51

I had my nose pierced with a gun when I was 17, it didn't hurt. I let it grow over ten years ago as I felt a bit past it. I've just read this thread and decided to put my earring back through it and open it up. Currently sat here with tears rolling down my face Shock

Cocolepew · 24/09/2015 14:57

My hole Grin closed over really quickly, I can't even see where it was done now .

iamaboveandBeyond · 24/09/2015 15:02

I had mine done relativley recently. Already had a lip ring. Noone even commented on mine, i mentioned it a while latr to my sistr and she thght i'd had it for years Grin

I didnt have a stud though, they put a captive-ball ring in it.

FuckYouBitchImWellClassy · 24/09/2015 15:03

Bloody don't try and re pierce it yourself,go to a studio.

Itsbloodyraining · 24/09/2015 15:04

Mine had a small mark but I'm freckly anyway. I've tried to re-pierce before but it was totally sealed, looks like I have extra spikey earrings in today! Ouch!

Itsbloodyraining · 24/09/2015 15:06

Fuckyou, I didn't want it back! Just idly read this thread and decided to try!
