To think Paloma Faith was a bad choice to sing World In Union?

I love her songs, I love World in Union but the 2 don't mix- her voice isn't powerful enough.

She's a bad choice to sing anything.

It might just be an ITV thing- she sang it in the opening credits of the ITV coverage.

Deffo an ITV thing.

Oh joy- 48 matches of her crucifying that song in every commercial break?

good news - petition now on change.org. Sign to get rid of this caterwauling!

I assumed it was some x factor crap on first hearing , but no - this is a paid singer. She's dreadful.

and that is REALLY dreadful given what most people will put up with now.

mollie123 · 25/09/2015 16:12

listened to her rendition and it sounded screechy (maybe my speakers) but given that rugby is a manly game (mostly) it should have been a male voice with power to do it justice.

revealall · 25/09/2015 16:18

I think World in Union is a complete dirge.
Quite like the raspy edge she has given to it actually. Sounds different and made me listen to it afresh

Andro · 25/09/2015 16:19

She is utterly dire, what is worse is that she lacks the self awareness to realise just how horrific her rendition is.

MaudGonneMad · 25/09/2015 16:20

She's a bad choice for anything. She's beyond awful.

MissMarpleCat · 25/09/2015 16:20

She hasn't got the right voice for that song.

tldr · 25/09/2015 16:22

If you listen to the whole thing it's not so bad. The real crime is the bits in isolation ITV are top and tailing the ad breaks with.

squoosh · 25/09/2015 16:27

The bits used at the ad breaks sounds like a skinned cat being dipped in acid. Proper yowling.

PeasinPod1 · 25/09/2015 16:32

Find her and this song immensely irritating.

SniffsandSneezes · 25/09/2015 17:34

It doesn't help that we only hear little snippets which just sound like she's in pain. I usually like her but this is bloody terrible!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/09/2015 17:40

YANBU, Bearbehind - it is the single most atrocious performance of any song I can recall hearing. Her intonation is suspect, she swoops from one note to another, and her pronunciation is utterly appalling.

Eg. "ayeeee nyeeewwwww ayyyyee jazzz bee-gurn" instead of 'a new age has begun'.

I am either muting any bit where she is singing, or fast forwarding through them if I am watching a recorded match.

Whoever at ITV chose her and then signed off on the performance is a tone-deaf, unmusical idiot who should be shot.

poorbuthappy · 25/09/2015 17:43

Yes we scramble for forge mute button as soon as the actual rugby stops on ITV.

Oh thank God somebody else has seen sense! I quite like her but this is dreadful! Caterwauling with a peg on her nose! It's suppose to be a stirring anthem but this makes my ears bleed

confusedandemployed · 25/09/2015 20:08

That's a really polite thread title for this topic. She is an unremittingly, completely, indescribably fucking awful choice, by virtue of the fact that she's an awful singer and has interpreted it hideously. I thought it was a joke at first.

MrsRossPoldark · 28/09/2015 22:42

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius: agree totally! We have 26 letters in our alphabet most of which require you to either put your lips together or at least to have them close to each other in order to pronounce as a consonant. She manages to sing the whole thing pretty much 'vowels-only'! Utterly lazy but what do you expect from that egotistical, stuck up, (much too polite to add anything else!)...?

TrionicLettuce · 28/09/2015 22:45

YANBU, makes me wince every time I'm unfortunate enough not to hit the mute button in time.

MrsRossPoldark · 28/09/2015 22:46

Incidentally I hate her voice but have found her vile since I heard her on Chris Evans' radio two show, when Roger Daltrey was on too.

Chris had to intervene after she said "you know a little bit about music, don't you Roj?". How dare she treat someone like him with such a total lack of respect?

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 28/09/2015 22:51

Was it Glastonbury that was televised a while back? I heard her on a friends telly, absolutely murdering her own song which will come to me in a minute....oh yeah.... "Only love can hurt like this". She was dia-bleeding-bolical. Couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Just yelled. Out of tune.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 28/09/2015 22:53

It's hideous in the extreme. There are bits where she honestly sounds as though she's heaving.

Dh reckons she must have been constipated when she recorded it.

ShatnersBassoon · 28/09/2015 22:54

I didn't think it was being sung in English when I heard it the first few times.

Her diction is poor when she's speaking, but it is indescribable when she sings.
