I used to come on here and enjoy the witty lighthearted banter. It was an escape from the seriousness of day to day life.

Recently I have been on and everything is so doom and gloom, I come away feeling worse than when I logged on. There seems to be one bunfight after another about migration, benefits, politics, house prices, SAHM etc.

AIBU or has anyone else noticed the same?

So how come you missed the thread about the mad next door neighbours and the weeping bicycle monkeys?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/08/2015 13:18

Haven't noticed that myself, I try to avoid serious threads.

Yes I don't think I laugh as much as I used to, I don't think. Some posters used to write very comically.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/08/2015 14:47

I've just had to offer an apology for taking a thread the wrong way, I thought the OP was pretending to be a cow and eating 30,000 calories.

She wasn't Blush.

it was the gin

ChestyNut · 08/08/2015 14:48

I agree. There's a thread in chat that I read like this > Confused

Have people had a sense of humour bypass?

gamerchick · 08/08/2015 14:49

It sounds better your way
still Grin

ChestyNut · 08/08/2015 14:50

Ha ha still Grin

That was the thread, maybe I'll try it later after a glass of wine and it will all make sense?

HappenstanceMarmite · 08/08/2015 14:50

What pisses me off, makes me yawn/roll my eyes is when an OP mentions that someone in their life is being lazy/irritating/spiteful/name ugly trait, they will be leapt on and be told that said knob person probably has mental health issues/depression and that more tolerance should be afforded. Now (before I get leapt on by aforementioned righteous MNers) I am all about being more tolerant and kind generally. But surely some people actually are just lazy/irritating/spiteful and do not have mental health issues?

Not on MN apparently, where every negative trait is medicalised. Hmm

TheSpottedZebra · 08/08/2015 14:51

That not cow thread was indeed odd. But it wasn't you.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/08/2015 14:52

Oh,sorry,that was to Still

Blush
StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/08/2015 14:57

Actually I've just re-read some of the thread on the cow 30,000 calories thread and it's funny, people were having a laugh, not at the expense of the OP, just having a giggle.

Some didn't like it and are a bit arsey .

Burke1 · 08/08/2015 14:57

It is quite serious now. Toe the party line or be jumped on and subject to all kinds of abuse.

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2015 15:01

Hide some topics. Makes all the difference. I have AIBU hidden (unfortunately they still appear in Trending so I see the odd one, which is how I saw this) also Relationships.

Use the Hide Thread button too.

MimsyBorogroves · 08/08/2015 15:02

I missed the cow thread, and now I'm intrigued.

There's a lot less to laugh about here these days. Moan.

cleanindahouse · 08/08/2015 15:04

Weeping bicycle monkeys? What have i missed?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/08/2015 15:05

Mimsy it's not about a cow, OP's quite pissed off that it's been interpreted by a few of us that way.

She's not laughing.

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2015 15:07

There really is no 'party line'. Post whatever you want. As long as it's within Talk Guidelines it's ok.
Report if you feel there's 'abuse'.

TheSpottedZebra · 08/08/2015 15:09

No, I thought that the OP seemed to laugh a bit, but (naturally)d idn't like that lots of people complained she used hyperbole, told her it was a crap thread, and lectured her about cows.

BitOfFun · 08/08/2015 15:09

I think maybe it's just people rather than MN, iykwim? Life is pretty hard going for most at the moment, and you are going to see that reflected here, especially as the demographic has broadened in recent years.

Sparklingbrook · 08/08/2015 15:11

If you have a bit of a laugh with people you 'recognise' on here you get accused of all sorts. So best to pretend you don't recognise any names. at all.

Namechanging is a no-no but also not namechanging is a no-no.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 08/08/2015 15:12

I missed anyone saying it was a crap thread, that's a bit harsh.

Whiskwarrior · 08/08/2015 15:13

I've obviously missed the memo on the party line too.

I tend to post when and where I like.

And try not to be disablist/homophobic/racist while I'm at it.

And not tell lots of women off for not liking sex pests on the street.

Is that the party line?
