to think mn is so bloody serious now?

I used to come on here and enjoy the witty lighthearted banter. It was an escape from the seriousness of day to day life.

Recently I have been on and everything is so doom and gloom, I come away feeling worse than when I logged on. There seems to be one bunfight after another about migration, benefits, politics, house prices, SAHM etc.

AIBU or has anyone else noticed the same?

Happenstance,
I countdown to the first suggestion of mental illness! Never fails!

Sometimes I like a holiday to Reddit. On askreddit posters have to mark the thread 'Serious' to stop people making joke comments. On Mumsnet people have to write 'lighthearted' to stop people taking joke threads seriously.

Yes there are a few chewy faces around, everyone is out to get them , nobody does what they want , the way they want and Its Not A Laughing Matter.
Lots of horrible judgy pants too. I haven't tried hide thread yet. Might give it a go. There's still plenty great stuff its just harder to find.

Hide thread is very underused. Sometimes I post on a thread, maybe ask a question then think 'You know what actually I don't give a shiny' and hide it. Grin

norabones I switch between mumnset and askreddit when the nest of vipers gets too much I head over for a circle jerk and then head back when they've beaten the latest joke to death with a crow bar

Hiding AIBU from your topics cheers the place right up!

I have it hidden and then venture in every now and again via trending etc. And try to not go round telling people they are awful etc.

I accidentally told someone on AIBU they were a psychopath once. Shock And I didn't even mean to at all and yet somehow there I was - I got a little out of hand with my philosophising and suddenly it was psychopaths at dawn. It can take you like that, this place.

I've stopped using words like 'nuts' in every day conversation, its actually not good to make light of mental health which I've learnt on mumsnet. I wouldn't tear someone to pieces though for using it, especially if its clear they didn't mean it to offend.
Some things do need challenged though and should be. I've had some arguments on here but I've never tried to deliberately upset anyone.
