To have cried when I fell at ice skating today

I've been loads do times, just couldn't seem to get the hang of it today, my DD whizzed off she's brilliant, I was trying to skate round but people were skating past me so fast and I was getting in their way, I couldn't hold on to the side either for a bit as there was nothing to hold onto it was a sheer Perspex panel.

Only area to hold onto and sit down was right over the other side and its an enormous rink.

I just totally lost my confidence and fell hard, pushing my mobile phone into my chest ( it was in a top pocket) and jarring my wrist, I've bit my tongue and my finger was bleeding badly.

I got up and felt such a tit and started crying.

DD linked me and helped me to the sitting area when she saw me on the floor.

Can't believe I've cried I don't know what's wrong with me!

I'm feeling so sore and very old and stupid.

Poor kid had to skate alone for an hour I couldn't get back on the ice, everyone who passed me gave a weird look Sad

It's just shock! I got hit in the face with a ball last week - didn't hurt, but I just burst into tears like a toddler!

The people who gave you weird looks are being unreasonable; you are being entirely reasonable.

Sorry to hear about this. It sounds really painful. I´m sure your daughter still enjoyed the skating, though, and is grateful to you for taking her.

I hear wine is good for skating injuries, as is chocolate...

I fell in the shower 2 years ago (at 28 years old), just slipped all of a sudden and really hurt my back catching it on the sharp lip of the edge. I was in my mum's, she ran upstairs, and I just sobbed like a baby in my towel while she hugged me :( Combination of the intense pain and the fright I got, you were perfect reasonable to cry!

Did they not have those penguins you can push in front of you and hold onto? I can sympathise; I tore ligaments in my knee trying to ice skate about 10 years ago. That was both excruciating and humiliating.

Aw thanks guys.....I was expecting a torrent of how ridiculous I must have looked and that I wasn't setting a good example for my child just giving up.

I honestly think I'm in shock, I'm freezing cold and shivery,it really bloody hurt, all my tongues bleeding still and my fingers killing.

I think for our next little outing we will opt for ten pin bowling or the cinema.

Yes agreed with all others it will be a combination of shock and pain. I (very stupidly) thought i coule still do a cartwheel flip about a year ago and tried showing my dd (show off I know). Anyway, I just about managed a handstand and fell right on my head, bent my neck and landed square in my back. It really hurt and I was really shocked too and winded. I cried and refused to get up for ages. Dd wasn't impressed at all!

flogging they did have the penguins yes but you know how it is...They're for kids ill be fine I've done this before sort of thing.

The kids were better than me today, all of them.

There was an awesome man about 80 years old whizzing round the rink going backwards and all sorts I couldn't take me eyes of him. He had white hair and was very tanned he looked incredibly fit, don't think that will ever be me somehow,think I'm hanging up my skates today.

Sorry about your accident. I expect it was the shock and pain that made you cry, coupled with the embarrassment of people watching. I hate ice-skating and can never get my balance on the ice, I end up clinging to the side for hours until someone drags me away. One of my friends had the tip of her finger sliced off on an ice-rink as a child (she fell and a man skated over her hand) which has made me very nervous of skating! If it's any consolation, many many people fall on ice-rinks, I've seen whole lines of adults go down and the first-aid team frequently have to help people off. So it's not unusual to have a bad fall.

Nowadays I don't skate, I just watch from the seating area!

of course it's not silly
I've broken bones in falls that weren't on ice! It's a horrible shock and jarring and just the knowledge you could have hurt yourself badly freaks you out.

I did similar about 5 years ago. But I had to wheelchaired off the ice. I had pulled the ligaments at the top of my shoulder and ended up going to hospital in an ambulance Blush

At least it wasn't busy. I had my arm in a sling for a few days and had to have physio. Ds1 had to help me get dressed and go to the hospital for physio on the bus as I had my arm in a sling.

When you're young you just seem to bounce

I suggest a lay down and a hit sweet drink.

It's shock that makes you cry after a fall.

I ran through from the bathroom to the hall in our old house (wrapped in a towel as I'd just come out of the bath) to answer the phone, slipped on the wooden varnished floor and fell on my side - I gotsuch a fright that I burst into tears too!

I suppose we get used to it falling over once we are past childhood and when it happens it comes as a nasty surprise!

Falling on ice hurts like a bitch.

The other year I went skating at the Natural History Museum in December it was cold and raining but good fun until...a twat behind me lost his balance and used my back to regain it. I went sprawling across the ice on my stomach into a huge puddle. It fecking hurt and I was soaked to boot.

One of the attendants helped me off the ice but I sobbed like a baby. Proper snot bubbles and all. I'm well dignified me.

I cried a few months ago when I fell down the stairs. I'm 28! It just happens involuntarily sometimes, don't worry about it.

Btw ice skating is the devil's work, steer well clear of it!

I blubbed like a baby at 16 when I fell down the last 3 steps at home on the stairs. My mam had to cuddle me Blush

It's shock, and understandable.

I feel up - yes, up - some stairs at work and it was really painful and I felt all jittery. I had to haul myself into a meeting straight after the incident and sat there trying to establish whether or not I had broken any skin, it hurt that much. I would have cried were it not for the fact I'd had to lurch straight into the meeting.

Manager said I looked "pained" and was surprised he didn't think the meeting was that bad, but I was in actual pain!

I fell off a path on holiday once, just a paving slab high, but my foot slipped and I went down on my knee. I cried for ages, even though it didn't really hurt, much to the bemusement of my dc.

I was skiing down an icy red run in February and some bloke from further up the slope skiied across my skis. I still don't understand the mechanics of it, but I flipped into the air and landed on my right knee.

It hurt so much! and it was the shock! Within half a minute the instructor and some of my group were there, they wanted to call for a stretcher but I was so mortified.

I remember having tears leaking out of my eyes as i watched my knee swell in front of me. My knee eased off and I side slipped down the run with my instructors arm around me Grin

I went for an early lunch, saved a table for the rest of the group, the instructor got me an ice pack and they did a last pre lunch run whilst I had a beer. I knew my ligaments etc were fine - it was just the impact, bruising and trauma and that afternoon the group made an executive decision to do some really easy runs to build my confidence back up and ease the stiffness.

But it was a hard fall and I felt really shaken so have some Flowers from me!

Everyone cries when they have just had a shock, don't they? (I did after I fell backwards and broke my wrist. It wasn't the pain ... it was defo the shock factor!)

So YWNBU!

FYI, I couldn't do ice-skating when I tried it in my early 20s. And I never took my kids ice-skating. So you're doing a lot better than me!

If it makes you feel better I cried when a wasp stung me a month ago!
I've given birth ffs !! But a wasp sting and I was in tears! Blush sometimes a cry helps
