To have cried when I fell at ice skating today

I've been loads do times, just couldn't seem to get the hang of it today, my DD whizzed off she's brilliant, I was trying to skate round but people were skating past me so fast and I was getting in their way, I couldn't hold on to the side either for a bit as there was nothing to hold onto it was a sheer Perspex panel.

Only area to hold onto and sit down was right over the other side and its an enormous rink.

I just totally lost my confidence and fell hard, pushing my mobile phone into my chest ( it was in a top pocket) and jarring my wrist, I've bit my tongue and my finger was bleeding badly.

I got up and felt such a tit and started crying.

DD linked me and helped me to the sitting area when she saw me on the floor.

Can't believe I've cried I don't know what's wrong with me!

I'm feeling so sore and very old and stupid.

Poor kid had to skate alone for an hour I couldn't get back on the ice, everyone who passed me gave a weird look Sad

And this was my knee - I was ok after a beer, some lunch and some sympathy!

Should you get your finger checked? I tripped recently and hurt mine, and though it hurt a lot I just assumed it was a strain. Ultimately it was found to be a broken bone and torn ligament, I really regretted not getting it checked immediately.

I fell down some steps at work a couple of weeks ago, didn't really hurt myself just grazed my elbow but loads of people saw it happen, you know when everyone just gasps and looks at you and its all silent? I got up, laughed and said "I'm ok" then sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes

Falling over as an adult totally merits crying, whether on ice or otherwise. It's such a long way down!

Hope you're ok Flowers

I tried snowboarding when I was in Canada; I fell over immediately, couldn't move my feet as they were attached to the snowboard, and started crying. I spent the rest of the day sulking sitting in the car while DH had a great time. In my defence I'd found out the day before that I was pregnant with ds1 so my hormones were all over the place!

Aww bless you, OP. It was the shock that made you cry. I doubt people were looking at you oddly, it was probably that half-sideway glance thing that people do when they want to check that you're ok but don't like to approach.

I cried when I fell off the treadmill when my trainer turned his back on me for two minutes. I got back on, was showing him what I did the first time (mucked about with the buttons) and promptly flew off it again... I did that laughing/crying thing that's even more embarrassing. Blush

Flowers for you, we've all been there at some point.

Oh poor you op Flowers

I fell through a bus shelter when I was 3 months pregnant with DS1. I cut all the backs of my knees and banged my head in the road. I stupidly brushed everyone off saying I was fine, got on the bus when it arrived and got in to town. As soon as I got there I burst in to tears and sobbed for ages. It was only then I remembered I was pregnant so I sobbed some more. Luckily my mil who I was meeting, found me and ushered me to a toilet to clean up my still bleeding legs.

It took me ages to calm down.

When you're a child, stuff goes wrong all the time and you kind of expect it. As an adult, you're used to being in control. It's a nasty shock when that control slips enough for you to get hurt. Plus you have enough imagination to think through what could have happened.

ByronBaby · 01/08/2015 23:34

You have my sympathy. I feel over at ice skating three weeks ago. I fell hard, right on my backside and my tailbone still hurts. It was such a shock that I threw up, sitting there at the edge of the skating pond.

purplesprings · 01/08/2015 23:52

It's the shock OP. All skaters fall over it's part and parcel of learning and doesn't stop happening no matter how good you are. Some days are just better than others.

Byron you might want to get your coccyx looked at. It's very easy to dislocate it - I've dislocated mine 3 times ice skating.
