DD(10)'s closest friend just turned 8. Her friend's favourite thing in the world to do is have "special" tea parties with anyone who will dress up and join her.

We have a box of antique tea cups and saucers in the attic that has probably not been opened in 20 years. None of them carry any commercial value, but they are family items.

DD's friend is practically family to us - WIBU to give her a special cup and saucer for her birthday? It seems like a better gift to me than plastic branded tat. Maybe that is because I am an old goat, though...

A couple of them with some biscuits is an amazing idea, I would add a note explaining that they are special.

Pack them up as a "tea party in a box" with other tea party stuff. :)

I'd get some lovely pretty napkins (with flowers or cupcakes or something on), some little biscuits or mini cakes and a bottle of something kids don't normally drunk like orangina in a glass bottle or elderflower cordial or something

Thanks for all your feedback. DD and I are going to choose the ones she wants to give in the morning, then make some tea cakes and biscuits. Might add in a nice plate, too.
