Am I a bit precious or is this a bit gross?

Neighbour (young woman) just knocked on my door...I'd only just got out of bath so spoke through door to her....she wanted to borrow DH's hair clippers ....her friend is visiting and as she has the side of her hair shaved, my neighbour wanted to give her a trim.

I was a bit taken aback so said "I'm not sure where they are...Ill have a look and get back to you."

But it's gross isn't it? A bit of a personal item surely?

Do you think hairdressers use a new pair of clippers every time the cut someone's hair?

DoeEyedNear · 23/07/2015 15:46

I'd tell her to buy her own. Grim.

cashewnutty · 23/07/2015 15:46

Hair clipper for head hair? Not pubes or any other random hair? I don't why that is gross. Hairdressers use their clippers on everyone that needs them surely?

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:47

Cunty no....but that's partly why DH doesn't use a barber....he saw someone get cut once and was a bit disgusted....

DH's clippers, his choice surely? Personally I wouldn't want to share. Agree it's a bit gross. If she shaves her own head, why doesn't she get some of her own?

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:48

Cash I suppose it's like using someone's brush isn't it?

OP posts:
cuntycowfacemonkey · 23/07/2015 15:51

Fair enough OP. Just say that to her "Sorry, DH hates the idea of sharing clippers that's why he won't go to a barbers and has his own"

It's personal choice and fine to say if you don't want to lend them.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:51

Cactus I know! But she really did! I'm glad someone else thinks it's odd!

PosterEh · 23/07/2015 15:51

I wouldn't have a problem sharing a hair brush either (again, this is what hairdressers do). Just disinfect afterwards if you are worried.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:52

Cunty I think I'll tell her I can't find them. It's not like it's for her own use so she won't ask again.

OP posts:
Yarp · 23/07/2015 15:52

I don't see the problem

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:53

Poster no...I'm not disinfecting DH's clippers! Grin

She just can't use them.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:54

Seems it's sort of 50-50...some folk see no issue (hence her asking I suppose) and others, like me think it's gross! She could have nits! I don't even know the girl.

TheReluctantCountess · 23/07/2015 15:55

I wouldn't want to lend them out either. How odd to ask a neighbour, especially to do a mate's hair.

KinkyAfro · 23/07/2015 15:56

So she wanted to borrow them to cut her friends hair? Tell her to buy her own, bloody cheapskate!

TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:56

Countess I know! I've given her a cup of sugar in the past...how traditional is that! But clippers! She'll be asking for my loo brush next! (not that I have one of course)

OP posts:
TheHouseOnBellSt · 23/07/2015 15:58

Kinky who? The mate?

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 23/07/2015 16:15

Wouldn't bother me at all.

hiddenhome · 23/07/2015 16:18

Tell her you're in the middle of a lice infestation and have chucked them out Smile

Kumiho · 23/07/2015 16:22

I think it's a pretty bizarre thing to ask. I mean... you have a sudden urge to shave your friends' head despite not owning clippers? Oh, alright, I'll ask the neighbours. Totally normal.

Topseyt · 23/07/2015 16:23

She is going a bit too far with this. It isn't gross, but it is presumptuous and rude.

Tell her you can't find them. Every time she asks.

She will have to get her own.

toffeeboffin · 23/07/2015 16:23

Gross.

FarFromAnyRoad · 23/07/2015 16:26

Is this one of those stupid threads about Archers or Emmerdale or some shit like that? Grin

I don't know if it is or isn't but thank fuck I'm not alone in dreading inadvertently opening one of those! Grin

coffeetasteslikeshit · 23/07/2015 16:30

Wouldn't bother me at all, I'd happily lend her DH'S clippers... send her round to me :)
