To hide the crumpets?

fhdl34 · 14/07/2015 13:09

The shopping just arrived, I feel I should hide the warburtons crumpets. The other night DH ate last two - but used light salad cream on them instead of butter (well, buttery spread in this house)!!
It's just wrong, such a waste of a good crumpet. I still haven't got over him putting tomato purée on them for the kids and now that's the only way they'll eat them. Whatever happened to just enjoying your crumpet with a bit of butter on?

SALAD CREAM?

LTB.

Dawndonnaagain · 14/07/2015 15:46

Butter and melted cheese.
Never 'butter like spread'!

LikeTheShoes · 14/07/2015 17:01

Butter only.

but if you have to have other things, you could make eggy bread with them. Delicious, but not quite as good as proper buttered crumpets.

Purpleball · 14/07/2015 17:08

Lemon and lime marmalade also good. I have some lemon curd to try next on my crumpets Smile

GrumpyOldBiddy2 · 14/07/2015 17:08

Proper butter and strawberry jam.

That is all.

SuzanneCrazyEyes · 14/07/2015 17:12

Peanut butter for me

SchwarzwalderKirschtorte · 14/07/2015 17:56

Real butter, a slice of cheese and crumpets? what crumpets?

RatOnnaStick · 14/07/2015 18:01

Uurrrr Rubbery fuckers.

You can hide them from me.

SpringBreaker · 14/07/2015 18:04

Pesto and cheese :)

Andrewofgg · 14/07/2015 18:06

I would suggest you tell him where to put his crumpets with their salad cream but he might do it . . .

Not that you are much better, OP, and you know it - butter and nothing but, please.

Bovril? It is made of rancid used axle grease to which a secret ingredient is added to make it seriously nasty. Contraryish is there a branch of Bovrillers Anonymous anywhere hear you?

AreYouSupposedToBeInIowa · 14/07/2015 18:10

No salt butter and chunky bitter marmalade. It's the law.

SteveBrucesNose · 14/07/2015 18:11

YANBU. I live in a stupid fucking country that only imports sunblest crumpets. I'm not sure DH even knows they exist because I hide them so well

However, I just state that Philly is by far the most superior topping, closely followed by lashings of actual proper butter

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 14/07/2015 18:15

Funny thread.

I like just butter, not faux-butter (Really, OP!!), just plain salty butter and whisked out of the toaster and buttered quickly so they can never be rubbery fuckers (RatOnnaGrin) by the time I eat them.

winterinmadeira · 14/07/2015 18:22

Defo hide them. However yabu because they do need butter and then when it's melted, more butter on top....mmmm.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 14/07/2015 18:25

DH puts cheese on top of his, sometimes with marmalade. This is WRONG.

Salted Lurpak on Warburtons is the only way to eat a crumpet.

dodobookends · 14/07/2015 18:25

Rat - you've never had a properly cooked crumpet! They aren't rubbery if you grill 'em for long enough - then they're lovely and crispy.

MaidOfStars · 14/07/2015 18:32

A rubbery crumpet is an undercooked crumpet.

I am a cheese topper.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/07/2015 18:33

Toasted crumpets, butter, marmite and poached duck eggs - lunch of the Gods!

Salad cream? Tomato purée? Kill him with fire.

TheTravellingLemon · 14/07/2015 18:35

Some of you people don't deserve crumpets. Pass them over here.

MonstrousRatbag · 14/07/2015 18:39

M&S crumpets are very good though.
President salted butter is the only way to go.

SideOrderofChips · 14/07/2015 18:41

butter and cheese!!

debbietheduck · 14/07/2015 18:43

Can't believe no one has mentioned butter and honey.

And yes, it must be proper butter. Shame on you.

RatOnnaStick · 14/07/2015 18:49

Even properly cooked (for DS1 and DH) they have the most unpleasant texture on my tongue I have ever experienced. I maintain they are narsty.

Marylou2 · 14/07/2015 18:52

Crumpets and Nutella! Yum! Or, on a more serious note, Crumpets and Sainsbury's Hazelnut and Chocolate Spread made with sustainably sourced palm oil. Apparently Nutella are Monkey Murderers according to DD.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/07/2015 18:54

Ohhhh yes, debbie - butter and honey, dripping stickiness with every bite.
