To think that flaccid bacon is the Devil's invention?

I am on holiday in West Wales and went out for a breakfast this morning. I was really looking forward to it, BUT THEN... It arrived and the bacon was limp.

It just lay there, pale and congealing with soggy white fat. And I thought, does anybody actually eat it like this when crispy golden bacon is such a heavenly experience?

(Yes, keyboard warriors, this is very much tongue in cheek.)

Revolting. Undercooked bacon is so off putting. It's the reason I wouldn't order anything with bacon in a restaurant or cafe - you can just guarantee it'll cooked wrong.

Bacon should snap - anything else is unacceptable

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2015 09:28

My housemate for two years at university used to MICROWAVE her bacon for thirty seconds and then eat it Shock

They are hiding amongst us like normal people.

Yabu - bacon is the Devil's invention, end of.

HelenF350 · 30/06/2015 09:32

Yuck, soggy bacon is revolting!

sliceofsoup · 30/06/2015 09:33

YANBU.

Soggy bacon is the make or break of a good breakfast.

It has to be crispy.

Contraryish · 30/06/2015 09:35

I love it all soft and juicy, so you can actually taste the bacon. When it's crispy and overdone, all you can taste is salt, it's horrid!

WorraLiberty · 30/06/2015 09:36

Limp bacon?? Shock Angry

I hope you took whoever cooked it, outside and gave them a good kicking.

Daffodilliesanddaisies · 30/06/2015 09:38

My Dp likes soggy limp bacon, it gives me the boak. He's learnt how to cook mine to its crispy perfection.

FenellaFellorick · 30/06/2015 09:39

we do indeed walk among you Grin I love soggy bacon. It's great in a sandwich.

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2015 10:01

But surely you end up with fat soaked, claggy bread and a sandwich with a uniform squishy texture?!

YABU - I hate crispy bacon, it's just burnt. That's the reason I never get a roll and bacon from a cafe, I like it just cooked!

usualsuspect333 · 30/06/2015 10:05

I hate crispy bacon. I love it limp and just cooked.

OnlyLovers · 30/06/2015 10:12

YANBU. It could make me cry. I like bacon you can pick up with your fingers. The fat on underdone bacon is especially disturbing.

cardibach · 30/06/2015 10:22

Crispy bacon is burnt. All I can taste is salt and burn. Bacon cooked correctly is soft - don't see why you all think it will be dripping with fat, though! That's inferior bacon carelessly served.

FenellaFellorick · 30/06/2015 10:38

I drain the fat off. I don't like bacon that you could crumple to dust in your hand. It's cooked, it's just not crunchy.

like this.

AuntyMag10 · 30/06/2015 10:38

Bacon in general is yuck.

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2015 10:46

Fenella, that bacon is not limp. Therefore it is acceptable, if not how I would eat it.

It's the truly floppy stuff that is grim, when the rind is all pallid and slimy. Bleurgh.

Flaccid bacon? Is this a euphenism?

ozzia · 30/06/2015 10:48

Can't stand crunchy bacon, it actually upsets me

badtime · 30/06/2015 11:28

I think the even the pro-soft bacon faction would agree that the fat/rind needs to be browned? Right?!

I don't mind soft or crispy bacon, but I cannot stand bacon that has been cooked at too low a temperature to brown the fatty edge. It's foul, and so disappointing.

Some places do this to such an extent that I think they must steam their bacon.

NashvilleQueen · 30/06/2015 11:34

Couldn't agree more. Nothing disappoints like flaccid bacon. I tend to ask for it to be well done in a cafe and stand over them whilst they actually write it down. However I always prefer it when I do it myself exactly as I like it (and don't get me started on toast).

ozzia · 30/06/2015 11:56

Soft bacon with all fat cut off for me

SirPercyPilkington · 30/06/2015 12:01

I keep reading this as The Flaccid Baron is the Devil. And wondering which celebrity has the codename Flaccid Baron.
I bet it's Piers Morgan.

And now I read it properly, flaccid bacon is gross but crispy bacon is also gross. Halfway for me please.
