To be completely furious with my daughters school?!

So yesterday I picked my children up from school, dd1 was crying at the door, so I asked her what was wrong and she told me that whilst practicing for sports day she had fallen and hurt her foot, she refused to walk properly, I asked her if she'd been to the medical room (because only the week before she collapsed after school, after not feeling well, the school told her to have a drink and she'd be fine) she said she had and that they'd put an ice pack in it and sent her on her way, they didn't even remove her sock.

Fast forward a few hours, I knew something was wrong, so took her to a&e and sure enough it's broken, she's now in q cast for 4-6 weeks.
Aibu to be furious that they didn't call me, and left her in agony and unable to walk for 2 hours? She was clearly in pain and had been crying and after her collapsing last week I specifically asked them to keep an eye on her.
I'd like a meeting with the head teacher, I won't lose my temper but I'm very upset, is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance

Definitely- email concerns and request Face to face meeting to discuss.

I'd be furious too, and would be asking for a meeting with teacher and head. I used to teach secondary PE and I think you should always err on side of caution when dealing with injuries. If be most upset if she is primary and had been sitting crying all afternoon in the same class. It always angers me that teachers don't worry about crying.

The school will be crapping themselves so yes I would go In! They will have to do accident report etc and I would request a meeting with the head and keep it all in writing- requests.
You are right to be upset! I hope your dd is on the mend.

If it was so very obvious, why didn't you take her to A and E straight away when you picked her up or got home?

Your OP suggests that you waited a few hours after you found your daughter in tears and distress at pick up time, implying that even those who knew her best (parents) were not sure for quite a while that this needed medical treatment.

Id be livid! Yes meet with head and make a complaint and ask to see their first aid policy and any other relevant policy.... I'd put complaint in writing it's unacceptable ! Xxx

I meant a few hours after the incident, she did it at half 1,when I collected her we arranged a&e trip straight away

Email the school and request a meeting. Would also contact ofsted, the school will also have an obligation to inform ofsted of a serious injury. The care given to your dd was not good enough.

A few years ago I worked a role that meant I visited schools. On one occasion I was let into a school and asked to wait in the reception area. There was a boy aged about 5 quietly weeping holding a very obviously broken arm. He had no one in attendance and was then left with me alone, I later found out he had been waiting for a parent for over an hour in a great deal of pain. I reported this to my ofsted as a serious concern. About a week later the school went into special measures for a variety of reasons including this incidence. It really matters, schools have a duty of care.

Hope your dad is feeling more comfortable.

Seeing the head is fine - BUT you need to make sure the school has a complaint from you in writing! So you can go to speak to the Head and give them a written complaint, or at least send either an email before or after (summarising what you believe was said during the meeting).
If there is a paper trail then the complaint cannot be ignored.

This by the way is a Safeguarding issue and a Health and Safety one. You should also request seeing the accident book and seeing if it has been completed properly.

I hope dd is not in too much pain. Ds broke his ankle at school 7 weeks ago and luckily they DID look at it. He had to get a taxi to A and E as I couldn't get there straightaway.

That's awful, I'd be spitting. I'd go in first thing this morning and demand a meeting with the head. Is dd primary or secondary ?

But having it confirmed you didn't then. No, you are totally not wrong to be furious. If on first inspection it was obvious to you she needed hospital id say the school failed in their duty of care to make a proper assessment.

Hope your DD is ok. Give her some Cake from me.
