To give up driving after failing again

Just failed my third test of the year and one I really needed to pass due to work and really want to throw in the towel.

failed on the simplest thing with no other minor faults and driving examiner said I drove beautifully but it doesn't help as still failed.

No one else in household drives so this would make a massive change to our live but I can't seem to do it.

Simple things can be fixed - no minors is fab.

You can do it, if it was just a minor thing and the rest was great the examiner sounds like a right bastard apply again and learn from the mistake for next time

I know someone who learned at 45 and took 7 attempts within a year to pass her test. She got it on her 7th time. Now loves driving. She just kept getting far too nervous in her test and making silly mistakes.
Keep going and don't tell people when you are sitting it. She went for cancellations so she could try again quickly as she could drive but just couldn't pass the test.

No minors is amazing - what was the thing you failed on? Was it something you know is a bit of a weak spot in your driving, or was it just an unlucky one off? Either way, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass next time... and then that's it, you're free to drive! Not surprised you feel downhearted at the moment, but keep at it and you'll get there (and probably be a much better driver than those who pass easily!)

This time failed on not checking my blind spot on my right every single time I pulled off, I just looked in my wing mirror so the 3 minors turned into a major. no minors anywhere else.

It's so frustrating as I have never had this problem in any lessons.

I do get very very nervous starting about a week before my test, I tried rescue remedy this time which helped a little but still soo nervous, shaking and feeling sick, heart was racing. I am not a nervous driver at all on lessons.

Stick with it. All the best drivers pass 4th time round.

I failed the first time with no minors just a major in the last 5 mins of the test on the way back to the test centreHmm

You can do it, it took me 6 goes. After 3 fails in quick succession I threw in the towel for a few years, had to basically start from scratch again. Keep up with it, you'll get there.

Keep going getting no minors in other areas is a great achievement. I failed both my car and motorbike test first time. Stick at it and you will do it

If I give up now I'll never do it so will keep going, I just hate the way it makes me feel and feel like it's always hanging over me.

money is a problem at the moment, some weeks only have enough money to feed kids so I feel so bad that I am wasting money because of silly things.

I have a car waiting from my mum and petrol money will be what I spend on lessons currently. just cost of tests crippling us.

Yes, definitely, a bastard for doing his job and assessing the OP correctly. Theoretically failing to check a blind spot could be a major fail all by itself so the examiner may have been being lenient. Striking it out doesn't mean you didn't say it, not really!

examiner was really nice. said he gave me more chances than should of and said he was willing me to just look.

It took me four attempts. If you failed three tests horribly then maybe driving isn't for you but as you said it was one simple thing, so essentially bad luck. Get another test booked now!

You've got the long, arduous slog of learning to drive out the way, that's the hard part- don't quit now! However many tests it takes there will be one occasion where all will be rosey and you'll pass. You wouldn't be going in for the test if you weren't ready. Smile

DO NOT give in!! My SIL took 5 attempts to pass but she got there in the end! It took me 3 times to pass and I grew up on a farm driving tractors and the like! Book your test pronto!

I took some Bach's rescue remedy before my third and final test, seemed to settle my nerves! It's the luck of the draw on the day, go got it and be sure to update when you pass, and you WILL pass x

Commiserations. It must feel pretty crushing at the moment, but lets hope you can pass next time.

To the poster who said that the examiner sounds like a "bastard" for not letting this go, I have to disagree. Glancing over your shoulder into the blindspot is very important. I have been driving for over 30 years now, and have many, many times had something in my blindspot. Nearly always I have known that they would be there, but very occasionally not. The blindspot can be incredibly large, hiding whole cars or vans in it sometimes.

Good luck for the next time OP. I doubt that you are likely to make that mistake again. You sound as though you will make a good driver when you pass.

Yes, I agree with 19lottie you haven't failed horrifically, so you're definitely due to pass soon. I passed on my third go but my previous 2 tests were almost perfect but I'd make one stupid mistake and fail.

I passed on my 4th.

I didn't get minors on the last three iirc. One of them I failed for being too hesitant when overtaking a hazard.

It's annoying but you will get there and then it will change your life.
