To give up driving after failing again

tryharder100 · 13/06/2015 16:39

Just failed my third test of the year and one I really needed to pass due to work and really want to throw in the towel.

failed on the simplest thing with no other minor faults and driving examiner said I drove beautifully but it doesn't help as still failed.

No one else in household drives so this would make a massive change to our live but I can't seem to do it.

You can do it. You know you need to check your blind spot and you will next time.

Those who pass first time probably have another car to practice on. Can you do that with your mum? Most people have a lot of hours under their belt when passing, with an instructor or a relative.

Don't give up. Being able to drive brings a lot of flexibility.

I passed on my 4th time. I nearly gave up after my 3rd fail, so pleased I didn't. It took my mum 5 attempts. Keep going, you can do it.

I passed 4th time! I'm glad I didn't pass before, I am a better driver for it.

Are you happy with your instructor? I changed and it made all the difference to my confidence as a driver. The previous one had been very focused on how to pass the test, the new one was all about forgetting the test, and learning how to be a good, safe driver. Got him through personal recommendation.

I'm sorry you're feeling that way today - it's horrible when something bugs at you, but your "error" was just one of those things - you were nervous! I appreciate that you're worried about the money, but get another test booked as soon as you can. It sounds like you just made an unfortunate mistake and that you're ready to drive. When you do, you sound like you'll be really competent and safe.

I passed fourth time too - I was furious with myself for failing earlier tests, but I got there in the end. Don't give up, you can do it! Flowers

so stressed today, can't stop thinking about it. need to let it go but every time I stop it's there in my head, I'm so stupid for not checking, I have never not done that. really can't afford to throw it away like that, so much was riding on me passing.

Don't give up! I passed on fourth go-I literally thought I don't care how many times it takes, I'm going to pass. First time, I ended up weeping two miles from test centre. I assumed examiner could drive us back, but no, they're not insured apparently.

Just asked my husband (ex driving instructor) what advice he'd give to you. He'd recommend taking a couple of lessons with a different instructor because it may be that you and your current one are too familiar with each other now. Tell the new instructor you've failed three times but not what for and ask them to take you out and see what they pick up on. They can then focus on any weaker areas.

FWIW I failed one of my tests after being stopped by the police and then went on to pass next time round.

Oh, no, OP, you must keep going, you are so close!!! I think you just need to keep taking them till you pass now as it sounds like you are capable Of doing it. If you give it all up now, think of all the money wasted on lessons and tests, whereas a few more quid on a couple of tests and that would be it! You'll get less nervous next time round as you know the format of the test.

Can you book another test and just treat it like a practice one? Tell yourself that you're expecting to fail but just want another practice at it . You may pass anyway, but If you don't then it will have been just a practice run through.

I felt terrible oressure on my test to pass because my parents were paying for my lessons and test. I think it's very different if you're paying for your own and don't have a specific deadline.

Come on, keep going and see how it goes! Don't give up,it's not worth it at this stage now.

Took me 5 times and each time it was something different. When I finally passed I had the most minors id ever got (6) and done a kangaroo hop on emergency stop.

I started learning while my dd was very young and I was sleep deprived with PND.

Just think of the freedom it will give you when you pass!

Keep going, you can do it! Grin

If you can drive well and it's just nerves that make you mess up, then you could try a relaxation CD or download, or app. Or even hypnotherapy if you can afford it.

You CAN do it.

It took me 6 goes, I never failed horrifically (I had two tests with zero minors two tests with 3-4, one with two) and then passed with two minors! Keep going, I promise its worth it. I changed instructor after three fails, and it really helped me get there.

I'm doing my second practical test on Monday. I failed the first time because the examiner thought I was too close to parked cars on the left. My instructor, who was in the back, told me after he was a hard ass and instructor didn't think I was very close.

So on Monday I'll be giving people plenty of clearance.

And remembering what my instructor said: pretend it's a lesson. If you drive well in lessons? Then this is just another lesson with a different teacher.

I took 5 goes to pass mine too. Two when I was 18 and finally passed after my third go at 27 (I took a break in between to go to university and travel the world).

Keep going. I think it is the hardest test I have ever taken, worse than Alevels, degree or any presentation to a board of directors at an interview.

I failed one because I drove off with my door open :(

I failed another because I could not do backing round a corner.

Just KOKO.

Keep going! I haven't passed yet, but I'm determined to! My last fail was not straightening my wheels after a manoeuvre and so not completing it. Silly, nervous mistakes. You can do it.

Book another test quickly. You will probably pass the next time.
Never ever give up.

Towards the end i stopped telling people I had a test and that reduced the pressure and meant I didn't have to tell people I failed, which seemed to make the failure worse.

Keep going! I failed 6 times over 3 years. I know the feeling of wanting to give up - I nearly did too. I thought I'd be dangerous as I didn't have a natural skill at it. Nobody in my family drove and i wasnt familiar with cars or roads. I think it made me a better driver in the long run. I've been driving for 10 years now.

I passed on my 4th attempt on 21st May. I was dreading another fail as it is so expensive and we need to save money at the moment. I really can empathise with the pressure you put yourself under due to this and other people's expectations, especially if you're surrounded by people who passed first time and find driving easy. But don't give up or everything so far will be a waste. Your lucky break will come honestly.

Don't give up! I passed on my 6th time. Have been driving for 2y now without incident and it is so much easier once you get past the pressure of THE TEST. Honestly, keep at it, it's so worth it!

5th time here. It was awful every time I failed I felt more frustrated but the 4th I left the test and just booked the next no messing. I had the same examiner who had failed me previously and as we walked to the car he said "come on Blar lets do this". Was so nice.
You can do it!!! It will change your life. Good luck trust me I know how you feel but it's so worth it.
