...you are in somebody else's country and your guide has just told you this is a massive cultural no-no in the place where you are?

I mean Malaysians manage to come here and visit places in the UK without shitting on the cenotaph, "how do they do it" etc.

I'm actually annoyed by this, because it doesn't take much to not actively insult somebody else's culture and traditions, and it reflects on us as a country when our kids do this stuff abroad. I want to ramble and rant about what's going on with our young people but the thing that annoys me is that when my kids want to travel, people like these these prats have gone ahead spreading bad will.

I mean it's not exactly a difficult situation to avoid, is it? Am I being too harsh?

Idiots. All of them.

Madbengalmum · 11/06/2015 17:17

No sympathy, especially when these individuals have no respect for anyone elses culture and put their lives on facebook, morons

midnightvelvet01 · 11/06/2015 17:21

Ah I haven't read the stories reported in the press, were they warned by the guide? What a fucking stupid thing to do if they were!

You're not being harsh, I feel the same way about violent football supporters & drug mules who end up on death row & complain about it!

Fingeronthebutton · 11/06/2015 17:22

Well they all seem to get their kit off at the drop of a hat, so why should a being up a mountain in a foreign country stop them.
I hope they throw the book at them. I'm sick of being embaressed by these morons.

PurpleSwift · 11/06/2015 17:34

tobysmum77 · 11/06/2015 17:39

It might have caused an earthquake. After all gay marriage causes flooding Wink!
I agree that they were being dicks.

undoubtedly · 11/06/2015 18:15

YANBU

They're also the ones who will come back to the UK and moan to anyone who listen about Malaysia/Egyptian/Mexico being shit because of the hassle they got from men.

Well cover up and show some respect and you might find you have a nicer time!

Pure ignorance.

Had you spotted this thread which is running today?

When I was in the Maldives we were asked not to wear just swimwear in the public areas of the hotel where the mainly Muslim staff were. The gormless woman who sat next to us at lunch decided that the teensiest sarong wrap that barely covered her arse was appropriate. And she are with her mouth open. Dozy mare.

RedToothBrush · 11/06/2015 18:31

Would they piss and strip in a Church?

GoringBit · 11/06/2015 18:41

It takes minutes to check things like local customs and sensitivities. Even without the guide's warning, they should have known (and probably did know) that stripping off on that mountain would have been seen as massively disrespectful by the locals. So they do it anyway. And pose for pictures of it. I don't wish a harsh punishment on them, but I don't have sympathy for them.

VoldemortsNipple · 11/06/2015 18:41

I don't know what possessed them. I've climbed that mountain (many moons ago) and it's bloody freezing at the top. I'd have been scared of losing a piece of clothing. They were probably laughing at the poor guide for telling them not to do it.

lem73 · 11/06/2015 18:52

Exactly Redtooth

DJThreeDog · 11/06/2015 18:55

Can someone link to the story? Been sequestered in an office all afternoon haven't got a clue what's going on!

Suefla62 · 11/06/2015 18:56

Well they've all done a wonderful job of screwing up their lives now haven't they. Every time they make a job application their lack of common sense is going to be out there for all to see.

AlternativeTentacles · 11/06/2015 18:58

Complete and utter wankers the lot of them.

DJThreeDog · 11/06/2015 19:00

Oh I'm an idiot sorry! Found it on the linked thread...

Viviennemary · 11/06/2015 19:04

Idiots. How can the UK complain if they get a prison sentence. After all the naked rambler is now serving a two and a half year sentence. Different rules for them I expect.

Sickoffrozen · 11/06/2015 19:07

Most of them are not from the uk.

Young people do stupid things. They hopefully learn from them. The lesson may be very harsh for her!

AcrossthePond55 · 11/06/2015 19:33

The thing is that, cultural sensibilities aside, since when is it ok to strip off in a public place? Common sense says keep your clothes on if others even might be around (unless you're at a nude beach or something).

There are some 'culture sensitivity' basics that I'd think pretty much any one would understand. If you're in a foreign country speak respectfully, don't use profanity, don't touch things, and keep your clothes on.

Clammytoes · 11/06/2015 19:51

Why would you do that in any country ?

Would it even enter your mind to do that , absolute idiots

viva100 · 11/06/2015 20:26

Idiots, I have no sympaty whatsoever for them.

And if they went in to a church in England and took their clothes off they'd be in jail too. I hate how the media is reporting this - some innocent westerners who do something funny and get punished by backwards/superstitious authorities. They're being prosecuted for indecency, not for actually causing an eartquake FFS!

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 11/06/2015 21:02

No sympathy whatsoever here either. Hope they get a suitable punishment and others learn from this.
