To cringe when people start posts with 'Just that really'

It never is 'just that'.

They always go on to elaborate their point, so why bother with the prefix 'Just that really'? I find it both lazy and a little annoying.

I am obviously a grumpy old woman and probably BU. But - does anyone else sigh when they see this?

Language, for me anyway, is about expressing intent and tone. I can't get wound up about little idiosyncrasies like that.

I get irritated when posters start their post by saying 'Right.....' (as if they are saying 'here comes the definitive answer'.) My choice to get irritated,

No problem with "Just that, really".

Quite a major problem with posts beginning "So,..." It adds nothing except three or more totally unnecessary key strokes.

OP I find it slightly irritating but only because it's a MN cliché. I suppose if people spend long enough on a website the 'stock phrases' get engrained.

Perhaps people use it if they feel their OP is quite brief and it's being slightly apologetic for that (but without reason IMO).

MN is like having a conversation. It's not some sort of formal writing exercise.

I use "so" all the time. I am perfickly aware it is incorrect. I don't give a shit.

Aha. Perhaps it's a very subjective experience. Because I actually like posts that start with 'Right...'. They come across as sort of assertive.

Unlike the wishy washy limp handshake that is 'Just that really'.

Not as irritating as the patronising "you knows" that crop up sometimes.

Because, you know, they really are annoying.
