To cringe when people start posts with 'Just that really'

It never is 'just that'.

They always go on to elaborate their point, so why bother with the prefix 'Just that really'? I find it both lazy and a little annoying.

I am obviously a grumpy old woman and probably BU. But - does anyone else sigh when they see this?

It's a metaphor or a pithy summary of what it feels like for the OP.

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:37

Right! So.... y'know -

Just that really.

If you put all the detail in the thread title. Like wot I do.

Then sometimes a 'just that really' is all you need.

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:39

Dame - but what if I don't?

What if it drives me to distraction and I end up running towards a cliff edge in despair...?

OP posts:
kennyp · 01/06/2015 21:39

i can't BEAR the "right ..." posts. i mentioned it before ages ago on here and someone said that it's becuase she's organising her thoughts ... so "right ... i did a massive plop, reached for the loo roll ...." good god it's boring. sort your thoughts before you start typing them.

i also cannot STAND "if that makes sense". friend of mine in real life says it all the bloody time. i want to punch her. but i'm her friend, so i just rant aboutu her behind her back on here instead.

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:40

Yes usual - I think I'd prefer it if people put their money where their mouth was and did just leave it at that, and wait for the replies.

But they never do.

It bothers me because too OP.

I tend to dislike long thread titles. It's like that expression, "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?". Long thread titles have no mystique. Or something.

And it's completely unnecessary. You've already made the point in the title so if you're not going to elaborate in the op then at least be inventive about it.

I really need to get a life Blush

Plonkysaurus · 01/06/2015 21:43

Ugh typos.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/06/2015 21:44

OP - well at least then you won't have to worry yourself silly about such nonsense!Grin

Honestly, I had no idea people hate such ridiculously ordinary sayings/ words/ things until MN!

FarFromAnyRoad · 01/06/2015 21:46

Only two things boil my innards - one is the word 'hun' or 'huni' or any variation thereof.
The other is 'u' for you. How fucking long does it take to type Y O U ffs.

Just that really

I'm normally very laid back, but I always sigh at 'just that really'. I'm surprised we're the minority.

usualsuspect333 · 01/06/2015 21:48

See, I hate it when there is no detail in the thread title and I either open the thread and it's about bog brushes. Or ignore the thread and then find out it turned into a bunfight.

FizzyGood · 01/06/2015 21:48

Worse than that for me is a post that ends in "your thoughts?"

Or just "thoughts?"

Ugh.

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:49

Yes, I notice the 'if that makes senses', though they don't bother me so much, if you see what I mean.

Which brings me on to IYSWIM. Which I don't mind at all, for some reason.

If that makes sense.

OP posts:
LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:51

Luckiest hooray!

I was beginning to feel very lonesome on my little planet. I think there are at least three of us now!

OP posts:
LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:53

Fizzy - what about 'any thoughts gratefully received'?

I must confess to using that one quite a lot! It is a bit 'signing off business email'.

OP posts:
FarFromAnyRoad · 01/06/2015 21:53

Ugh yes - 'your thoughts', 'thoughts' or the absolute last word in awfulness - 'discuss'....... Angry

Flyinggeese21 · 01/06/2015 21:54

Bathsheva don't waver! :)

Plonkysaurus · 01/06/2015 21:56

Just saying "thoughts" or "discuss" is so dismissive. And it insinuated that the OP has raised a topic for discussion but will not take part in that discussion. Like the chair in a debate or something equally nose-look-downy.

FizzyGood · 01/06/2015 21:57

Yes! Like an exam paper has just been set.

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 21:58

Someone in my life who shall remain anonymous uses the most dreadful text speak, to the degree that's actually incredibly difficult to decipher their messages. The time they saved writing words out in full (debateable) adds at least double that to mine as I try to figure out what the heck they're blethering on about.

OP posts:
ItsTricky · 01/06/2015 22:02

I'm going to say YANBU because little things like that wind me up too. I've posted a thread today and been called unreasonable.

Joining you in Grumpy Guts Land, my friend. I'll put the kettle on Smile

FarFromAnyRoad · 01/06/2015 22:04

Veg - is this textspeak person under the age of 14? Because if not it is your civic duty to smite them dead!

LowMaintenanceVeg · 01/06/2015 22:07

Far from 14..... They're 49(!)
