To tidy my hotel room...

I travel a bit for work and we often have weekends in Premier Inn type places as a family.

I ALWAYS tidy the room before we leave. In fact, I tidy before I go out for the day if we are staying more than one night: clothes folded, stuff neatly on surfaces, bed made, towels put right etc.

Is this weird? I couldn't walk out of the room if it was a mess!

Makes sense to me. The cleaners can do a better job of cleaning if it is tidy.

You are doing the right thing absolutely, showing respect for the cleaning staff who are probably on a minimum wage and rushed off their feet. I also make a point of mentioning any pleasant staff in feedback I give. Being nice costs nothing!

I only make the bed, and straighten the towels, if I don't want them changing. Otherwise I tidy. Nothing major, just straighten things up, not left scattered about.

Well there's not usually anything to tidy before you leave surely, as you've packed it all? I always put all my rubbish in the bin and straighten the bed though.
If I'm going out for the day I'll make sure it's generally tidy and all my clothes/personal items are either in the wardrobes/drawers or in my suitcase.

I always leave a hotel room tidy. The housekeeping staff usually have a tight schedule and are poorly paid. Why would I make their job harder?

If we are there for a few days I prefer to put my stuff where I want it and know where it will be and when I am leaving I would feel awful leaving it a tip.

When I was 15 we all had to move into a hotel for 6 months while we had building work done to our house. I used to be a right shit and put posters up and used to rearrange the room. Every day Id come back from school to find the room in the original layout and the posters etc laid out neatly on my bed. I cringe when I think of it now

I strip the bed before I leave on the final day and leave everything tidy and all rubbish in the bin and usually empty the bin for them too. Iv done the job, its crap.

I tidy my stuff. However, I've always found that if I make the bed it gets remade anyway, so it doesn't necessarily help the staff to do that.

I live tidily, so there is nothing to tidy... though this thread explains a comment by a friend - showed her a pic of our posh hotel room - and was told how clever to remember to do it before we unpacked.. It was day3!

Yes was just coming on to say that staff will have to make the bed in the 'hotel approved' way so not much point making that. Stripping the bed is helpful when you leave.

I always strip the bed before we go. Encountered the housemaids on our way out once and their sheer gratitude that I'd done that was immense!

I used to clean holiday cottages and so now I always strip the bed before I check out. It really does make their job easier. I also heap the towels on the sink so that they don't have to bend over to pick them up and I tie the rubbish bags up and leave them next to the bin.

I can never quite remember where all those stupid menus and brochures were when I got there (I stuff them in a drawer) so I just have to leave them in a stack on the desk.

I don't bother dusting or wiping surfaces as they have to do it anyway.

I don't make my bed if I'm not checking out as they will just do that all over again, anyway.

I always strip beds when we leave our holiday cottage/caravan. Mainly to check none of the DC toys have fallen between the bed and walls.

I was a housekeeper for years in a hotel and I absolutely loved it when the guests tidied a bit so I could clean. It made my job so much easier keeping in mind that some other guests seemed to go out of their way to make a mess.

I could make your skin crawl with the things I've seen over the years

I've done this job and little things like putting rubbish in the bin or near the bin if youve bagged up extra rubbish and stripping the bed just makes life so much essier!

I always leave the 'Do not disturb' sign on and tidy up after myself on holiday. I'm not sure if that pisses off the hotel staff or not.

In the UK I straighten things up before I leave, having a cleaner coming isn't a licence to be a pig.

I used to do housekeeping in a hotel. It is much appreciated!

One time I had to spend over an hour cleaning one room for guests who were staying a few days - I was supposed to be in and out in less than 10 minutes. It was a complete shit-tip.

I leave the do not disturb on too. It's the first thing I do when I get to a hotel. I only take it off if we've filled the bin.

I always leave hotels room tidy. I often strip the bed too. I couldn't believe it when I saw how some people leave a room on a tv documentary about hotels. I know they pay people to clean the rooms but I wouldn't expect anyone to clear up after me.
I hate the attitude of people who leave a mess

We always do, just because I don't like mess, and I think it's might be slightly helpful and more pleasant for whoever comes to sort the room out. DH is very neat, and even folds our dirty towels into the bath when we leave.

Yes I always leave a room tidy and can't resist making my own bed - but WIBU to leave a note on it saying "please leave my bed as it is, I hate it all tucked in"?!

I get so embarrassed if the chamber maid has tidied up my stuff while I'm out!

I tried that once Bridget. Doesn't bloody work. I even hid all the fucking cushions and bed decorations in the wardrobe because I hate them and they all got retrieved and put back on the bed.

Most offputting thing about hotels for me is the daily cleaning and bedmaking. So intrusive and unnecessary. I'd rather they didn't bother unless staying for more than a week.
