To tidy my hotel room...

I travel a bit for work and we often have weekends in Premier Inn type places as a family.

I ALWAYS tidy the room before we leave. In fact, I tidy before I go out for the day if we are staying more than one night: clothes folded, stuff neatly on surfaces, bed made, towels put right etc.

Is this weird? I couldn't walk out of the room if it was a mess!

We have so much stuff and there's so little space to.put it as we often do a two week tour. I keep it fairly tidy. Stuff always binned Tec but I.not going to keep putting toiletries, bits and pieces in my case to drag it all out again at bedtime. Floors are always clear . I bring bleach and clean the bathroom. .it's always tidy when we leave

I travel a bit for work too. I always leave the room tidy. I don't make the bed though.

Surely the housekeeping staff have to make the bed according to hotel guisdlines (which includes tucked in so tight you can't turn your toes up!)
So by making the bed you are actually giving them more work to do as they have to unmake it.

I do roughly pull the sheets up, mainly to make sure there is no ipad etc left on bed (I've damaged one at home by just yanking everything off the bed onto the floor!)
I do tidy a room before we go out- it is not the staff's job to pick up my used underwear etc.

I also have been known to rearrange chairs etc in room but find they usually leave them alone

I tidy hotel rooms every day we stay. DH thinks I'm bonkers, but when you're 'living' in a small space you need to, or it becomes a bombsite in no time and you can't find anything!

I also spend a ridiculous amount of time tidying up our tent when we go camping.

I make sure my stuff is tidy but I don't make beds. The housekeeper does a much better job of bed making than I can.

Hotel rooms become bombsites alarmingly quickly IME.

I always hide my toothbrush, in case it's used to clean the loo

I always tidy up/leave room as tidy as poss too. I think it makes the housekeepers' job a bit easier. And I don't mind doing it. Glad to see so many ppl to ths same!

I always leave a holiday cottage clean and tidy butif i stay in a hotel I'm there for a total rest (and hopfully lots of debauchery too) and putting towels away and bed making doesn't seem like my idea of fun. I'm in housewife mode at a cottage, I'm in mistress mode in a hotel.

I'm generally tidy so i also won't leave a mess all over but no, I don't make my bed or fold towels. And Do not disturb signs are not helpful, cleaners will have to keep coming back to check if it's still there or if they can clean now.

We had to get sheets changed as there was a large mark on the bed when we went to get in. Housekeeping cane and fully stripped bed including pillows (just wanted sheet replaced), the sired they go at to strip and remake a whole bed was incredible to watch. Wish I had timed it.

I do this. I also rearrange the furniture as well.

No point folding towels as they'll throw them into the laundry thing or they'll re-fold them properly.

Sounds normal. The best way not to lose or forget things is to keep up with where they are each day. Otherwise you and the rest of the family are scrambling to get repacked.

Like Higgle I would always clean a cottage when I leave, but not a hotel room (not sure it's for the same reason though :) ). I keep fairly tidy and follow whatever the towel instructions are so that I don't get unnecessary clean ones every day - although this is often ignored, annoyingly.
I don't strip the bed, and I certainly don't take bleach! shewalks, sorry, but I think that's bonkers! Apart from anything else I like to pack light in a small bag so there wouldn't be room - and I'm pretty sure the staff would be required to do it again anyway, so what's the point?

Obviously no one is going to say you're being unreasonable - so why ask?

Stripping the bed and a small tip is always appreciated. Housekeeping is back breaking work and done invisibly and with so little gratitude. And the the pay is shocking considering the work it is.

Women's work. Always underappreciated. The bartender downstairs can chat and make a nice bit from tips but the women in housekeeping? Be nice to them.

I will admit that we don't make beds etc. we try and leave the room in a reasonable state but I am not going to spend my holiday tidying a hotel room when one of the main pluses for me of staying in a hotel is the lovely tidy room each day that is tidied by someone else. We don't have opened and half eaten snacks/meals, we put our clothes away including any dirty laundry etc but we do not make the bed or clean/bleach bathroom before leaving the room. We do always thank any housekeeping staff and give them a tip.
