Instead their is a geographical jobs crisis, some nothern towns have streets of houses empty. Why because their is no jobs in many northern towns. London and other big towns are the only places of decent employment prospects.

However in London their is a housing crisis due to lack of building.

OP posts:
MrsNextDoor · 21/05/2015 16:34

There is a housing crisis. It's national.

TedAndLola · 21/05/2015 16:34

Yes, YABU and twisting the semantics. The housing crisis isn't just a lack of availability it's a lack of affordability and suitability as well. It isn't only working people who struggle with housing.

fortunately · 21/05/2015 16:35

Your OP makes absolutely no logical sense.

Try again, with thought.

Whiskwarrior · 21/05/2015 16:37

Wow, you've really thought that through haven't you?

There are too many people living in overcrowded/unsuitable accommodation in this country, unable to afford to buy, unable to privately rent, not getting anywhere with social housing. I speak from my experience, that of family, friends, work colleagues.

What do you suggest, that everyone moves to London because all the work is there? That's also crap.

AIBU to suggest you've started a poorly researched, poorly written thread designed to start a bunfight? [Hmm]

MaliceInWonderland78 · 21/05/2015 16:37

*Amy8 I think yo're right, there needs to be a wholesale rebalancing of the economy. I don't thik it would cure the issue, but I know that the asnwer is not to continue to build in the South East - that's just kicking the proverbial can (slightly) further down the road. In fact, it would exacerbate the problem.

MaliceInWonderland78 · 21/05/2015 16:38

Whisk I think she was perhaps suggesting that some jobs be moved out of London.

ToastyFingers · 21/05/2015 16:39

Yeah, that's right OP.
No jobs up north and no houses is London.
That's why i'll never be able of afford a deposit.

SommerenAldrigKommer · 21/05/2015 16:40

op is right. i knew she'd be mocked for one typo in the thread title

ThereIsIron · 21/05/2015 16:41

YABU. There is also a spelling crisis.

Whiskwarrior · 21/05/2015 16:43

Not one person has mentioned a typo Confused

But have another go at stirring, why don't you?

mrsfuzzy · 21/05/2015 16:45

why not stick to the topic instead of being picky about the grammar ?

OrlandoWoolf · 21/05/2015 16:47

What would a housing crisis look like?

Expensive houses
People over committing on their mortgage
Expensive private rents
Over reliance on housing benefits?
People unable to afford to raise a deposit and buy their first house

But yes - the North is full of streets with boarded up empty houses.
We wear flat caps, have whippets and go t'pub to complain about lack of jobs.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 21/05/2015 16:47

There is a crisis in parts of the UK. In others, as you say, there's housing but few jobs. That's reflected in the house prices in the area.
Trouble is a lot of the depressed areas were built on the back of long gone heavy industries. And they were the response to a housing crisis caused by people moving to industrial jobs as agricultural jobs went.

SommerenAldrigKommer · 21/05/2015 16:47

Fortunately said the OP's thread made no sense. It made sense to me, so I guessed she was taking the easy shot; there/their.

whisk, you were quite condescending and dismissive of the the OP's point (which i agree with) and then say I'm stirring.

Confused Confused

what 's wrong with discussing it? there is a housing crisis!

OrlandoWoolf · 21/05/2015 16:49

Wonder when the OP will be back to say why there isn't a housing crisis?

Yes, I said there is a housing crisis. No one mentioned any typo until you did.

So you pointed it out first and said people were picking on it when actually people were pointing out that the OP is generalising.

I'd like to see evidence to back up the claims that there is no housing crisis.

OrlandoWoolf · 21/05/2015 16:53

Did you know that people born in rural communities can't afford to live there because they can't afford the house prices?

They have a job but they can't get social housing either - because it's not been built.

House prices are cheaper. But pay is less as well. So they can't buy a house.

It's not all grim up North. We do have jobs and everything.

SaucyJack · 21/05/2015 16:53

Bollocks there isn't.

Also, there aren't that many jobs for normal people down South either by the way.

We're not all married to meedja types on 60k a year y'know.

londonrach · 21/05/2015 16:54

There is a massive housing crisis. Yabu

Fort does it make you feel better to say that. I as everyone else here understood what op said. Have reported your comment to mnhq as didnt feel it was in keeping.

fortunately · 21/05/2015 16:54

Well you guessed wrong Sommeren so untwist your knickers.

I was referring to the fact that I cannot work out whether the OP would like Londoners forcibly moved up north, jobs forcibly moved north or houses forcibly moved south.... or none of the above as it doesn't really look like there's much of a philosophy behind the post at all.

But feel free to bring spelling and grammar into it if you want to, of course.

Whiskwarrior · 21/05/2015 16:54

Raffles indeed. And what has Cameron pledged? To extend the right to buy scheme, removing even more stock from the already depleted social housing catalogue.

fortunately · 21/05/2015 16:56

Oh ladida Londonrach. Who made you the thread police? Confused

OrlandoWoolf · 21/05/2015 16:57

No housing crisis Confused

To think their is no housing crisis.
AmazingAmy · 21/05/2015 16:58

Too much growth is in London, unless we encourage businesses to move, we will only encourage a national economy that relies on London. Even though America is massive different cities have different types of businesses. New York finance, LA media, Dallas Oil, Miami Tourism.

Plz explain how this is a bun fight, it's not even inflammatory.
