So noisy.

Pick up the bowl, clunk the spoon on the bowl, clunck the spoon on their teeth then smash the bowl back down on the desk. Repeat for an hour gradually making more noise.

Arrrg!

Aibu to suggest they use plastic or just eat at home?

Its not really a desk friendly food.

Why are they having breakfast at work? Are you night shift workers?
It would irritate the hell out of me.
That's what canteens are for.

kissmethere · 20/05/2015 11:07

It's a noisy eaters thread again. My shoulders hunched just reading your post. And for that reason I'm out....
(Bloody pitas to do it in the office, yanbu)

FeijoaSundae · 20/05/2015 11:13

My colleague eats cereal at her desk every morning, and I have to say, I don't even register it.

Milkandmarmite · 20/05/2015 11:22

Yabu. Bigger things in life to be concerned about.

Germgirl · 20/05/2015 11:30

Yes there probably are bigger things in life to be concerned about but op you have my sympathies. Luckily for me I work in a lab where eating isn't allowed but there's no way I could sit next to people eating noisily. It drives me mad.
Can you wear headphones or something? If they ask why just tell them you can't bear eating noises.
Why are they eating at their desks anyway?

FruitOwl · 20/05/2015 11:35

I eat cereal at my desk. Sorry Blush

I cycle to work and just can't stomach anything before or would probably puke at the top of every hill! I do try to arrive 20 mins before my start time and get it down me before everyone else arrives.

balletnotlacrosse · 20/05/2015 11:38

I'm sure Milkandmarmite that there are 'bigger things to be concerned about' than the vast majority of problems posed on AIBU. It doesn't mean the more trivial stuff shouldn't be discussed. We're not going to solve world peace on here!

changenaming · 20/05/2015 11:44

This is SOOOO annoying! Somebody in my very small office does this every day and it wouldn't annoy me if she didn't bite the spoon with her teeth every time she takes a spoonful! Who the hell needs to bite down on a spoon for fucks sake?!

MinimumPayment · 20/05/2015 11:50

Does it really take anyone an hour to eat a bowl of cereal?

BaldricksWife · 20/05/2015 11:51

Colleague next to me munching her lunch and doing exactly what OP has written. Sets my teeth on edge on a daily basis- YANBU!

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/05/2015 12:40

YANBU. NO YOU MOST CERTAINLY ARE NOT.

I used to share an office with one, I called him the Granite Gobbler. Every morning he would spend at least half an hour muching like a machine on his homemade muesli slop.

The day he left was a very good day indeed.

blueshoes · 20/05/2015 13:14

That's the problem with open plan. OP, I am sure you do noisy or distracting things that annoy your colleagues as well.

Cereal eating would not bother me but personal calls would.

Why don't you tell them to use plastic or eat at home.

WannabeLaraCroft · 20/05/2015 13:25

I eat cereal at my desk.

But I like to think I'm quite a quiet eater.

Except when I have Coco Pops Grin

orangefusion · 20/05/2015 13:30

YANBU this makes me rage. Museli, apples, salads, anything I can hear, or smell, SOUP! Bananas! Aggh I hate people eating in offices. I have had screens put up around my desk so I dont have to see the coffee cups (I can hear slurping and see them chewing it or swooshing it through their teeth). I have headphones that I play very loud reggae music on when the food comes out. I also hate the sound of keyboards tapping or any repetitive noises in offices. I have had a referral to occupational health about this hence getting screens. I was fine when I had my own office but now I am in a permanent state of semi rage arousal. It is misophonia and there is little that can be done apart from finding distractions and never ever letting the rage get the better of you.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2015 14:35

I love the open plan offices I work in. People are all different.
Like a pp though I simply can't believe it takes anyone an hour to eat a bowl of cereal.

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/05/2015 14:52

It can.

Munch, take a phone call, munch, waffle on to a colleague for a couple of minutes, munch, munch, munch, walk over to the printer, munch, take another phone call, munch and on and on..........

catlover97 · 20/05/2015 15:00

Mitzy you must have worked in the same office I used to... Grin
Without fail the most annoying not to mention stupid colleague had a routine which was followed every morning - she kept ryvitas in her drawer - drawer open (loud metal thing), rustle rustle with the wrapper, munch, crunch, drawer slam as she closed it - and repeat! For what seemed like hours! I can handle the munching if done in a reasonable time period, just don't drag it out!

ChuffinAda · 20/05/2015 15:05

I eat cereal at my desk, out of a lunchbox to minimise noise. I only make enough to eat whilst the computer loads so I'm a very considerate cereal Eater.

I leave Home very early and am not ready for breakfast at that time so by the time I get to work before 8am I am ready for it.

ilovesooty · 20/05/2015 17:40

I'm really glad I don't work with some of you. Fancy being so utterly obsessed with and angry about other people's behaviour.

Crocodopolis · 20/05/2015 17:48

My least - favourite colleague eats cereal at his desk: scrape, crunch, scrape, crunch.

I want to take his scrotum and throttle him with it.

If I didn't loathe him so much, I would never notice the noise.

agentEgypt · 20/05/2015 17:50

You sound fine chuf.

That ryvita person sounds really annoying. Like people that eat a crisp at a time while working so it last half an hour - just do what the rest of us do and demolish them in 15 seconds!

OP posts:
CaTsMaMmA · 20/05/2015 17:52

and this is why i banned breakfast cereals at breakfast

the noise is just so utterly offensive. If it's not spoon clanking it's krispy popping or cornflake flabbing, dish rattling, or milk slurping

it'll be well done toast for everyone when I am Queen.

londonrach · 20/05/2015 18:11

First ive heard of this. Why do people eat at the desk. Nhs worker here and we banned from eating in the clinic. Surely people eat in staff room.

AgentCooper · 20/05/2015 18:15

I really don't mind noisy cereal eaters in the office (and there are a few where I work) but I can't stand it when people eat tuna. It just stinks so much, it makes me want to throw up. I need to go out for air. I am proper tuna-phobic, though. I used to work with someone who ate a big tuna softie every day and it turned me green.

Jackie0 · 20/05/2015 19:15

Yes londonrach, in any work place I've been in there are designated times and places to eat.
Why arent people eating their food on their break in the staffroom ?
