to think I might actually be dying.....

Ok I'm not, I'm having a gallbladder/stone attack but bloody hell. All the sodding ouchies.

People say it's worse than childbirth. Not sure if I agree or not although childbirth never made me cry or crawl around on my bedroom floor.

Fuck off gallstones

You have my sympathy.I had gallstones just after having my dd, and the pain was like nothing I had ever experienced before. I remember crawling round on the floor too

Do you have any painkillers, I was prescribed morphine in the end,although gallbladder removal was the final remedy. Hope it passes soon

Friend of mine is going through this. She says it is worse.

Hope you feel better soon. Wish I could offer more than tea and sympathy.

I am maxed out on nurofen, paracetamol and oramorph. It's not even taking the edge off......

Oh I sympathise. Had mine out two years ago but before that I'd spent many a night pacing in agony.

It sounds odd but stretching your right arm over your head and doing the old fashioned Mr Motivator style stretches helped me. I think they kind of dislodged stones that were stuck in awkward positions maybe.

Are you waiting for surgery?

I'm on the waiting list to have the removal. Have no idea how I will manage until then. Diet is crap. I'm existing on porridge, baked potatoes and water.

I live in perpetual fear of ever having gallstones due to the horror stories I've read on MN - the thought of pain worse than childbirth is just unimaginable. So no advice but a bucket load of sympathy.

And on the plus side, anyone who goes through this must end up with the pain threshold to end all pain thresholds. Dropping a tin on your big toe will be nothing afterwards.

i can sympathise, have you tried andrews liver salts? that's meant to widen the tube to let the stone back into the gallbladder. I never got a chance to try it as i had mine out before i got a chance. was the worse thing in the world.

i had an attack at work and had to walk around the grounds for two hours hiding like a wounded animal. :(

hassled I did once drop a tin of beans on my foot and broke a couple of toes. That was nothing compared to this!!

maggie I'm not actually asking for medical advice so no need for me to post in health. Just asking if im being unreasonable to feel like I'm dying. Just having a moan really. Same as 99.99% of all aibu posts. Thanks for taking the time to comment tho

This might sound odd, but have you tried vomiting? It was the only thing that stopped my pain during gallstone attacks.

It is hell on earth. I've never had white pain until I had gallstones. Pacing, crouching, sobbing... I was beside myself. You have my sympathy.

Lying still helped somewhat on most days but at times that was not possible. The only thing that helped then was a trip to A&E (because yes, I thought I might die) and get some morphine. If you are struggling, can you get to A&E? I had to call an ambulance once as I was pouring sweat, hyperventilating and throwing up black bile. It was the worst day of my life.

I've had my gall bladder out now (2010) but still have a very similar pain (although not a 10/10 pain - more like a 7/10) caused by the lovely free flowing bile/indigestion. Nice!!!

To clarify (because I realise it sounds really, really odd), I think it dislodges the stone or something. Anyway - it was always instant relief for me.

Hope you get your op soon.

I was once in hospital with renal colic and the doctor casually said to me "child birth" is a breeze compared to this".

A few years later I tried the child birth and they were right.

Renal colic - jeeez, only morphine touches it.

southeast - mine seems to come at times of stress of if I have an extra slice of cake (or 3!). Milder yes, but the same back pain, like someone's punched through your stomach and is pulling out your insides.

The best advice I had (from doctor in A&E) was to take the maximum amount of both paracetamol and ibruprofen every single day until you get your op. If you start taking them when the pain starts, it's too late. You have to keep on top of it and stop it starting in the first place. Sorry I know that doesn't help now, but it's worth knowing.

My sympathies.

Fetal position on the bathroom floor was the best i could manage. I used to put my watch near my face so I could watch the time ticking by. For some reason my attacks always lasted 2 hours- no more.

And 0 fat. Even healthy foods like salmon, avocado, bananas were all of limits until I go my op. Bowls of plain rice, chicken, veg and rich tea biscuits was my diet for nearly two months! And no alcohol. 'Twas tough!

Oh, my mother was diagnosed by her GP with gallstones.

It was only when we got her into hospital that we found out it was pancreatic cancer and she WAS actually dying, and four weeks later, did.

So really, you're actually quite lucky that it's gallstones and you'll get them removed and crack on with your life. I'm generally quite jealous of people who actually only have gallstones.

I was 37 weeks pregnant when I walked up and down for 10 hours, starting at midnight. I was howling and crying and just desperately sorry for myself.

3 weeks later I had DS1 - after being induced with a syntocin drip. Labour was 4 hours from a standing start with no pain relief at all.

I'd rather do the labour again.
